When nearly an inch of rain fell here the first of the week, It did not reach the districts of Beagle and Sams Valley to the north and west, where not enough rain fell to settle the dust-. . Some damage by rain resulted to the third cutting of alfalfa which was being harvested on several farms. C. W. Sage has building material on the ground, ready to begin the construction of an addition to bis dwelling house. Picking of all varieties of pears, excepting Winter Nellts will be com pleted here during the next few days. Several small bands of wild geese have been lighting In the fields here since the storm and Is claimed by some of our weather prophets to be a sign of an early winter. Some half dozen children In this district, eligible to attend high school are remaining at home on account of the depression, it is said. Mrs. M. B. News of a hall storm that seems almost unbelievable to Oregon I ana. reached Mr. Steele from Lambert, Montana. Quoting the Richland County Leader, "A heavy hail storm passed through the north Enid coun try last Saturday afternoon, accom panied by a heavy wind which did much damage. The hall stones broke the windows out and knocked shin gles off the buildings. The next day there still remained hail stones that measured five Inches around -Chickens, turkeys and small stock were killed and the larger stock had welts on them as large as a man'i fist." The little boy, who arrived Septem ber 7 at the Wilcox hospital, has been named Gregory Templeton and weighs seven pounds, 11 ounces.
