Dixie Club Renews Activities for Fall The Dixie club opened this year's activities with a covered dish lunch eon at the home of Mrs. C. J. Fry on South Peach street last week. . Mrs. , Jrva Corllea Frame, a bride of the past week, was the guest of honor. Mrs. W. F. Campbell was also shown special favor, the day being her birthday anniversary. Mrs. Rawlea Moore, the president, announced the appointment of Mrs. Hanby as program chairman. After a delicious watermelon feed the club adjourned to meet with Mrs. R. W. Frame on October 3, with Mesdames Crews and Griggs, assist-; lng the .hostess. Pythlans Plan Card Party Wednesday evening, September 9. the Pythian Slstera will entertain with a card party at the K. P. hall. This party Is the first of a series of card parties which will be given every two weeks, announcement of wheh will be given Wednesday. John Edwynne Peter to Richard E. Payne, son of Mrs. Mary Payno. was an nounced at the Hotel Medford Wed nesday. Summer flowers In shades of pink and orchid formed a pleasing con trast to Uie.Jade green bowls and sil ver candelabra used for decorations. Place cards, heralding the announce ment with the picture of a little bride, were in pink. Favors were rose cups and the formal announce ment was concealed beneath the nap kins, on a clever folder, whose cover repeated the Illustration of a bride. The lace cloth, covering the table, formed a lovely background for the delicately colored flowers. Covers were plaoed for Miss Peter, the bride-to-be, . her mother, Mra. Miss Peter is a popular member of the local post university set, a gradu ate of the University of California at Los Angeles and a former student of the University of Oregon. She la also a graduate of Province Academy at Vancouver, B. C, and Is an accomplished musician. Mr. Payne Is the youngest son of the late . Richard Payne and Mrs. Mary Payne of this city, members of two of southern Oregon's best known pioneer families. He is associated with the Jackson County bank of this city as assistant cashier. Announce Schedule For Y. W. C. A. Work Activities of the Young Women's Christian association, which will open In the club rooms at 239 N. Bartlett street on September 14 have been outlined, and registrations are to be received during the week by Miss Dorothy Mitchell, secretary. The class terms will be ten weeks, with one lesson per week in the vari ous groups. Instructors have not been selected for all of the courses, but will be announced next week. Schedule announced follows: Monday, club room, 7 p. m., char acter dancing, 8 p. m. folk dancing; class room, 7 p. m., salesmanship, 8 p. m., first aid. M Mrs. Flier's Birthday Remembered With Shower The September'biBlness meeting of the Women's Missionary society of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, met at the church last Thurs day afternoon. Following the busi ness session Mrs. Flfer was honored with a handkerchief shower in cele bration of her 75th birthday. The August program and social meeting was held at the homo of Mrs. Flfer, August 20. Mrs. Peters was In charge of the program on home mission work, past and present, Mrs. Flfer was assisted In serving refresh ments by .her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Rice. Mrs. Carpenter will spend several days in the latter city before returning to Medford. , Jacobs Return From ' Wedding In South Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jacobs have re turned to this city from attending the wedding in Burllngame of Miss Margaret Crae and their son, Milan Jacobs. The wedding was an event of Aug ust 29 at the home of Dr. E. A. Wal ters of Burllngame, The bride attired m a gown of blue crepe carried a bou quet of gardenias and orchids and was attended by Miss Margo Burton of San Mateo, who wore old gold crepe and carried sun star roses. Frank Buchter of 8an Francisco, formerly of this city, was best man. The ring ceremony was read by Rev. Barnett, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Burllngame before the fireplace banked with flowers. Mrs. Bunch Chosen 1 New Mead of Lady Lions Group Here The Charles Reames cabin on Rogue river was the scene Wednes day of a pleasant meeting of the Lady Lions club, the first since sum mer adjournment. Covered dish luncheon was followed by six tables of bridge,, Refreshments of Ice cream were furnished by the Swiss Cream ery for the event. Prizes at bridge were awarded Mrs. Harry Hansen and Mrs. F. Miss Palmera nd John Evans Wed At a quiet ceremony Tuesday mor ning at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Palmer on the Old Stage Road, Miss Elinor Gertrude Palmer was married to John M. Evans of Seattle. The service was read by Rev, Alexander O. Bennett of the Methodist Episcopal church. Following the wedding the bride and groom left for a motor trip up the coast and through Canada, after which they will mako their home In Seattle, where Mr, Evans Is pharma cist for the Osmere Drug company. The bride la a popular member of the local college set, being a graduate of Washington State college, which is also Mr. Evans - alma mater. Royal Neighbors. Have Enjoyable Meeting The Royal Neighbors of America met at the K. P. hall on North Grape street on Thursday evening for their regular business meeting. A very good attendance was enjoyed consid ering the busy soason. There were five visitors present and were Intro duced to the camp as Mrs. Lizzie Cannon, past oracle of Estella camp 2402, North Springs, Iowa; also Mrs, Cannon's three daughters, Ruth and Elizabeth cannon of North Springs, Iowa and Mrs. Inman of Medford, whom the Cannons have been visit ing the pt month. Mrs. Ora Lester was also a visitor, coming from Twin Falls, Idaho. Mrs, Lester has been away from Medford for 17 years. Everyone was pleased to welcome the visitors. F. D. Wagner of Ashland, were married in this city Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The service was read by Father Wm. B. Hamilton. The bride, who was charming In a gown of beige chiffon and lace, car rled a shower bouquet of lilies of the valley and orchids. She was given in marriage by her father. Her maid of honor. Coker of Holly wood, Calif., arrived In Medford on the Shasta Friday, and will visit her mother, Mrs. Carrie Hunter, and her sister, Mrs. Sid Richardson. Mrs. Hunter, who has visited In Medford for the past three months, will re turn to her home In Hollywood with Mrs. Coker, Mrs. Adamson Is Guest Here Mrs. James Adamson of Carlton, Oregon, arrived Thursday evening to spend a short time visiting with her mother, Mrs, George Launapach, and sister, Mrs. Marlon Bobbins of this city.
