Bown In charge of the southern Ore gon district, will take steps for a rigid enforcement of the new state law prohibiting transportation of a loaded gun on the highway, be the gun totcr aboard a horse, auto, mo torcycle or afoot. The main purpose of the new law is to halt the prac tice of shooting at deer or wild birds from moving cars along the high ways, and prevent accidents due to hurried removal of the weapon from the auto. The framer of the law figured that by the time an autolst stops his car and loads his gun, whatever he in tends to shoot at will be out of range. - v" Dozens of permits for carrying pis tols have been Issued in the past fort night, and the new law also applies to them, when on the highway. The permit Is good only for the pistol for which It Is Issued, and a rifle, shot gun or a different calibre pistol can not be carried under the same license. Captain Bown returned yesterday from an Inspection of his district. 4 1 PORTLAND, Ore..
