Graham Prosperity Six Dashes Across Desert For Record Racing ncross gal k till desert funds with the temperauir nt 108 denreos, tind climbing 8.000 feet to cross tho Sierras, a Grnhnm Prosperity six re cently set a new record tor the run between Los Angeles and Reno. New The Sll mile stretc,1. was covervd In 10 hours and 3 minutes, nn averugo speed of 60.84 miles on hour. In loss than 34 hours after Its start, the Orahnm was back In Los Angeles having completed a 1032 mile round trip ln 22 hours and 0 minutes run ning time, nn average speed of 40.25 miles an hour. The return trip was mndo ns an economy test. Although nn average speed of 42.45 miles an hour was maintained, tho gasoline mileage, was 17.32 to the gallon. Only a pint and a half of oil was used. The rouu was fur from favorable for either speed or economy. Three detours led the Grnhnm across open desert, over routes that had ruts in stead of road beds. The Graham left Los Angeles at 12:01 a. m. with Harry Neville and A. L. Peterson as pilots, and arrived at Reno at 10:04 a. m where they were greeted by Mnyor RoberUi. Aftor only nn hour and 12 minutes rent, the drivers started the return trip, completing the round trip In 23 Hours and 18 minutes elapsed time. The trip was a telling demonstra tion of engine, cooling, Despite the dcHert temperature which climbed well over t.'ie 100 degree murk, nnd the hard going over the alkali rondn of the dCKert, the Graham completed the distance without requiring addi tional water in the radiator.
