Mis. Ruth Pappas. who lives In
Chicago, laughs occasionally when
she looks at her husband. On
Wednesday in their West Harrison
street house, while she darned
socks, her husband John, told a
friend that no holdup men "could
get nwny with me." In walked
three holdup men. one holding two,
revolvers. Mr. Pappas and hts
friends "reached for the ceiling"
prom ptly.
Mrs. Pappas also raised her
hands in the air, the highwaymen
paying little attention to a poor
frightened woman.
But Mrs. Pappas knew where
her husband kept his revolver,
edged over toward It. shot the two
gunmen through the IicjhI, then
entered o room where the third
was robbing the bureau. He yell
ed, jumped under the bed. and
then out of the window, as she
fired.
.Mrs. Pappas laughed, because he
fore woman suffrage came in sli
heard men say so often That wo
men were not fit to vote because
I hey lacked courage necessary In

Bandits held up a New York
