But medicnj education In' this country is in the hands of high- brows and political gmfters, nnd you had better apply to the medi cal school where you hope to study, for advice about the pre medical college course. The edu cational institutions have their foibles and tricks, and a pre-med ical course that Is satisfactory to ono medical school may be qulto inadequate to admit you to an other medical school. The uni versities, too, have their tricks a college, course that , Is recog nized and civen credit In this uni versityis beneath the notice of the powers that be m-ancther uni versity. 'V The first graders at a certain public school are severely reproved by their teacher whenever they ar rive late. ' - Sometimes they are even sent to the principal to be thoroughly scolded. Trained educators appar ently do not understand child na ture and are unaware of the situa tion In the ordinary home when they give a child of six or seven punishment for being tardy. The situation, however, is a common one., in public school throughout theTountry. One little first grader was so dis tressed by the scoldings she re ceived for being tardy that she de veloped the habit of vomiting .at the time each morning when she should have started to school. . Actually the responsibility for tardiness in the first and second grader fails entirely upon the home. When mothers feel school au thorities are not as understanding on this point ns they should be it would be well worth while for them -to speak to those in charge. They should have an understand-, Ing which would place the respon sibility for punctuality where it belongs. Little children, of course, should, learn the necessity for meeting ap- pointments. They cannot learn It all at once, however, and it is un-i fair to make them feel the burden of wrongdoing when they fail. If parents are faithful in meeting the responsibility for punctuality of children in the first and second, grades there will be no difficulty in their forming desirable habits. ; By the time the child is nine or; ten years old ..he. will be able and willing to assume .this responsibil ity for itself.
