December Issue of Blue An chor, monthly publication of the California Fruitgrowers' Exchange, contained an article concerning the sale of Hard pears in the Snhtti Clara district. The account tells how it was possible for the grow ers to sell ten cars of this variety of peurs in Cleveland through th use of plans originated by the Med ford grower's. The article Included the follow ing: "Two Davids from Oregon, David II. Rosenberg, president of the Medford Traffic association, and David It. Wood, chairman of the Medford- winter pear commit tee, girded their lulns lat winter, ho to speuk, overhauled their slings, the stones whereof were little pamphlet reports of tho Detroit re sults In 1 U 2 .t , and descended into California seeking various likely Goliaths resident therein. "The Hardy Goliath lurking In Santa Clara was somewhat over weight from increasing production and fell rather readily before their shooting." The uuthor stated that Medford most gracefully . and generously yielded its undoubtedly prior claim to the Cleveland murfcet, where plans hud been partially carried out by the Medford group. The Hardy variety of pears grown in the Santa Clara valley had been sold previously to the United Kingdom and &outh Amer ica, and New York was the only market In the Llnited States where this variety had been placed for sale.
