pilation made on the basis of pre
liminary official figures from sup
ervisors by the Associated Press.
The figures have been under re
vision by the census bureau since
they were received from the states.
The bureau said the figures" an

director of the National Park Scr-,
vice, on his return Thursday eve
ning from a two days visit to the

assistant to the late director, Ste
phen A. Mather, there have been
wonderful tin movements In the
roads to the park, trails, landscap
ing, in camp grounds, lodge, the
addition of a cafeteria store and
the Information bureau, in charge
of Chief Hanger Godfrey and bis
pleasing assistants, all of whlcii
adds to the pleasure and comfort
of the people, who in reality own
the parks.

state highway commission for the
wonderful work they have duno
done and are doing in keeping up
the highway to the lake, und with
the clean-up of logs und brush
along the highway. The park ser
vice is cooperating with this work
in the park and it is now a plea
sure to drive along the scenic
route to the lake.

encircle the tip of the gigantlu .
volcanic cup Crater Lake which j
wiH cost in the neighborhood of a
million dollurs, will commence I
early next year. There is a quar
ter of a million already available
for this work, and we will pro
advertise this fall for this 3-mHc
drive, which will be ono of the
most outstanding scenic highways
in the world."
Mr. Albright was delighted with
the big Increase In attendance at
Crater Lake and predicts this will
continue fronuyear to year.
"Other Improvement at the
lake," said the director, "will In
clude a lookout on Victor Hock,
to cost about $10,000, extenslvo
landscaping along the rim of the
lake, which Is now In progress, and
the extension of walks and trails."

lowstone and assistant to Director

Mr. Albright Is a warm friend of1
the former superintendent of tho
park. Alec Sparrow, now county
judge, visited the lake several
times when Mr. Sparrow wiih In
charge, and a representative of
this paper had the pleasure of a
short visit with both of these men
last evening.
Mr. Albright was taken out to
the Kirtland farm, for a short visit,
by Mr. Sparrow previous to his leav
ing tor San Francisco. l'rom the
latter city Mr. Albright will go to
Glacier National park-, where he
will meet President Hoover for a
tour of several parks. Owing to
limited time, the president will be
unable to visit Crater Lake.
