Pro-season activity i.s now in full swing hi the orchards and the packing plants?. Th e can n ery d c ni a n d for Ba rt -lotts Is stlll weak, with few offers, and those at $30 to $35 per ton, a price the growers consider too low. Hather than let go at this price, most of the growers will store their Bartletts, for shipment later to eastern marts. There have nlso boon reported sales of Winter Nolis and IVAnjous at per box, by local growers. ., Tho storage and pro-cooling plants of the valley have started "cooling" storage space, us it looks like one of the heaviest storage years Jn the local fruit industry, with a brisk eastern movement of fruit. With the California Bartletts nnd Georgia peaches off the mar ket by the middle of August, signs point to a strengthening of the market after that date. Growors irnd .shippers nre. now playing n waiting game. With the Bartlett harvesting .over, the Winter Pear commlttoo will launch its Bosc campaign in Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Pittsburg.
