OF MEAT A DAY
How would you like to pay
butcher bills or restaurant checks
for an uppetilo that required 2Ti
pounds of beef as a dally diet"
Vet when you consider that the
owner of tho appetite tips the scale
at 735 pounds, It Is not surprising
that such a menu should be re
quired to maintain his strength.
Leo. the proud possesor of this
leonine appetite, will arrive in Med

tho thousands of friends that he
has In this city.
When Leo arrives in his cara-

which excels In magnificence mo-d

which will terminate at the front
of the Fox Crnterlan theater at

Two small forest fires oiv the
east side of Tatouc he mountain
near Flounce Rock and four miles
out from tho Crater Lake highway
were discovered nt 10:50 o'clock
this forenoon by the lookout on
Raid mountain w-no phoned thc In
formation here to the central
dispatcher of tho Crater National
forest.
Inasmuch as tho fires wero on
state fire-protected laud D wight
Phlpps, district fire warden and six
of his regular crew, left for the
scene at once, picking up en route
Mr. Ingram, one of the fire war
dens stationed at MeCleod bridge.
While thp fires, which are burning
In good pine ami fir timber, were
small when discovered they wero
expected to be lyirnlng fiercely and
spreading by the time Phlpps and
his fire fighters reached them, as
there is no road into the locality
from the Crater Lake highway
and they, had to pack In by foot
t'ie four miles, along with their
Miovcls, rakes, axes, etc.
If word is received from them
that the fires have grown large
and will bo difficult to control,
fire fighting reinforcements will lo
dispatched at once along with pack
horses bearing equipment. No fur
ther word had been received up to
early this afternoon.
These are the first new fires
to be reported for several doys
past, either In Crater .National
forest or on state protected land.
Should tho fires spread Po the
other side of the mountain they
would havo reached Crater Na
tional forest territory, and the
forest headquarters would hurry
out their ujvn fife fig litem to rein
force thh others oh" duty under
District Fire Warden Phlpps. '
