Known in this city as a com inei'cial artist, whose modernistic drawings have attracted attention in leading ci rides of the coast. -Mr. Wurts has exhibited in the designing of the new shop his ability to put ideas on to some thing more than paper. The orig inality of the s-hop and the choice and arrangement of merchandise can scarcely be exaggerated. Mr. Wurts has had vast experi ence in the operation of art shops, having eight years ago owned one of the largest shops in California. It was located in Iterkeley. His enterprise which perhaps attracted the most attention wan the conversion of the .Monterey theatre in Monterey Into one of the show places of the southern I state. Mr. Wurts had before then been in the interior decorating depart ments, of several of the west's b-adiug department, stores. will he assisted in the new Hhop Ity Mrs. Wurts, formerly Miss Ansel Davis, daughter of Scott Davis. Mrs. Wurts is a graduate of the I'niveisity of Washington, where she studied art. and will take an important part in tin' .operation of the shop. An exhibit of Mr. Wurts mod ernistic drawings is found in the log cabin basement. Electric Thermometers En able Split-Degree Check On Temperatures in Big Plant. The Southern Oregon Sales, Inc., have installed In thuir plant, a complete set of Knglehnrt electric resistance thermometers, at a cost of. $25110 the only equipment of ltn kind on the Pacific coast. The installation has been completed und will be in operation with the opening of the pear storage season. The equipment consists of U4 thermometers one in each stor age room, and are linked with Kl.ooo feet of wire, with a master dial. The thermometei'H are ac curate to one-tenth of a degree, j ami nave a range irom m degrees to 75 degrees. It will enable the S.. O. S. ts have an hourly log of the temperatures of the storage rooms, with speed and efficiency. This is vital in the shipping and handling of fruit. IMospects are bright that the government will assign u tempera ture expert from the Department of Agriculture to op.'iate the ther- mometers and make scientific studies in connection therewith, during the coming season.
