Virgin 8ttlon) E Awarding of the contract for pa trolling the forests of Oregon and southern Washington has been made to the Portland Airways, which operates off the Swan Island airport. Most of the lotiff distunce pa trolling of Oregon and Washington forests will be doue In a four-place Stjnson junior cabin monoplane equipped with a Lycoming motor. An observer from the forest service will be along on all the trips to check fires. The bane of operations for the present will be the Swan Island airport. When the fires shift in thf forests the base may be moved to Medford, lCugene, or any other airport near the danger sectors. The company is subject to call now. Later, however, the planes will he In the air every day over forests.
