CRATER LAKE, Ore., July 15.
(Special) Something new in
storms caused considerable com
ment among those at Crater Luke
this week - end. A heavy cloud i
resembling a thin veil of dust or
smoke, rose from somewhere near
Mount Scott and settled over the
lake.
For several houfs It continued
, to hang over the water and many
people stood on the rim watching
to see just what it would turn out
to be. Home believed it to be a
cloud of smoke from furest fires
but Investigation as to any near
by fires t spoiled that suggestion.
Belief of the majority wns prob
ably the correct one, that the wind
had stirred up a huge whirlwind
. on the opposite sido of the rim
' "''cousinifthe.'' pumice dust' I'd soar
skyward in heavy clouds nnd then
drop slowly over the lake.' No
matter what it whs, it certainly
added to the beauty of the sun
net lli:t evening.
