neighbors eager to add their own
acclaim for hia daring exploits, to
that of New York and 'Washing
ton.. He was the proud possessor of
the second medal to be presented
to him by a president of tho Unit
ed" States In honor of his achieve
ments In exploring the polar re
gions by airplane.
Tho decoration, a special medal
of1 tho National Geographic so-1
eiety, was conferred upon him last
night by President Hoover In com
memoration of his south pole
flight. The presentation took
place on the same stage upon
which ho received from President
Coolidge a medal In honor of his
flight over the north pole.
In lauding the aviator's accom
plishments, Mr. Hoover said ' he
ppoko not on!yr for himself but
for the nation as a Whole.
"For men of our race to master
extraordinary difficulty, to carry
through groat adventure, thrills
us with pride, with hope and with
confidence.1 he said.

kins, age 53 year, died at the home
uf John Winningham in Jackson
ville. June 21st, suffering but a
short time. Mr. Watklns was born
at what Is now known as Copper
nnd has made his home there all
his life.
He Is survived by his wife, Pol
ley Watklns and one son, Guy. of
Copper, one brother, Robert Wat
klns, and one sister, Mamie Win
ningham of Copper, also, and one
sister, Mrs. Vern Stephens of
Jacksonville.
