MEDFORD MaHi TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREttOX, SUNDAY. JUNK S, 1930. PXGE THREE i JACKSON COUNTY MAN STRIKES IT By Mary O. C'arey The following Interesting article concerning T. J. Devenney. broth er of Mrs. Ciilley Stead man uf I'hoPnix and scion of a well known pioneer Jackson county family, ap peared in an Alaskan newspaper: VALDliZ, Alaska. Three hun dred feet below the surface, 1 (J Inches of solid quartz carrying val ih'k in free gold so hiffh that n uuchh of anywhere from $r.uoo pet- ton up would not be an exaRgora- tion ore so rich that no assay Is necessary to demonstrate that vtluM-e is a fortune in siRht are in JKLlvhtch the fflltterinp yellow metal Is everywhere apparent in size from flakes to veritalde nuKf?ets. This was the news brought to town by T. J. JJevenney when he re turned from the property near Mineral Crt'ek, owned by him and V. A. Dnlan, and on which they have been doing development work for more than two years. le brought with him a sack of ore that bears out all his assertions. A single shot has dissipated all fears as to whether or not the ore goes down in the mine or whether the values are maintained, said Mr. Jjevenuey, for there is the vein, in the lowest tunnel, wider and rich er than on the surface. "There is no longer any question but that we have a mine." said Devenney, "and in that mine a stake will pro vide us with nil that we require Cor Iho remainder of our lives a mine t hat will give a big boost to the Yaldeit mining district." The Devenney-Dolan claims are situated a short distance below . the mouth of Mineral creek, on tin) nortli side of Valdez XJuy, anil .Mil re pot over five miles from the pown of Valdez. They are ideally lue.ated in that they are , but a short distance from the shore, af fording economical transportation of machinery and supplies. Mr. Devenney will leave shortly for the property and will continue driving in on the pay shoot to as certain Its extent, and ns soon as this has been determined, plans will he made to install a mill on the property. Mr. Devcnncy's success in his latest mining venture has been re ceived with pleasure by his rela tives and many friends in the Rogue River valley.
