High School Friday An outstanding social affair of the Hchool year was the senior re ception given at the senior high HChool Friday evening, which many of the juniors and seniors, as well as their parents attended. The gymnasium was changed to a beuutiful futuristic pavilion, blue Hky a hove and silver stars shining from the heavens. Futuristic panels decorated the doorway, with pink lights playing on the sliver designs from behind pule green shades. Music for dancing was furnished by the Mel ody Boys, a high school orches tra. The program consisted of mar imba solos by Charles Whlllock, a toe dance by Zoe Hello Luntls and Ethel Chord, and two harp solos by Betty Hlennett. Han Mesdames Barnum and Hilton Home From Honolulu The Inlands are still romantlcly fascinating and no ship leaves without a shower of floral lels, Mrs. Ben Hilton who recently re turned from Honolulu, Hawaii, ac companied by her young daughter, Marjorle, and mother, Mrs. S. G. Barnum, informs her friends. The lovely customs of hospitality for which world powers have no time, are the llfo of tho island people and as necessary to their existence as food. Mis. Hilton and her mother re turned to tho states last week, Mrs. Barnum having spent seven and Mrs. Hilton and Marjorle three months In Honolulu, being located most of the time In apartments' on Walklkl beach. ' Tho weather there, however, has experienced the same strange cur rents complained of here, and re ports give out the coldeHt season ever known at Walklkl beach. There were days, Mrs. Hilton said yesterday morning, when there wero no people seen on tho beach because of lack of sunshine. While In Honolulu, Mrs. Barnum and Mrs. Hilton visited Clyde C. Barnum, formerly of Medford, who Is now associated with the Hawaii an Sugar Planters association. Mr. Barnum has been in the Islands for. six years doing experimental work In bacteriology. The Important business of the afternoon was th election of of ficers. It has been the happy cus tom in the Wednesday Study club for the officers to serve two years ami this being the alternate year new officers were elected, Mrs, T. W. Miles to serve as president Mrs. J. Jl. Cochrane as vice presi dent, and Mrs. B. G. Harding bM socretary. Mrs. J. O. Grey, who has so graciously and efficiently filled the office of president for the past two years, now retires to tho honorable position of "past president." Mrs. A. J. Hanby, .who deserves much credit for conceiving tho Idea and with the president's as sistance so ably carrying out the plan of honoring Toklo's charming "Good Will Envoys,", reported as a special committee. Each envoy was presented with a Wednesday Study club booklet with its plan of the year s study of Japan, flow oth, and a message of greeting from tho club. That this small effort was appreciated locally and officially by the Japanese of Med ford was evident when Mr. Maru of tho Japanese association of Medford, thanking Mrs. Hanby for the club, Informed her that Med ford was tho only; place on the count where k women's association had greeted them. He presented to Mrs. Hanby for the club In be half of the people of Toklo and Japan a beautiful book entitled, "The Reconstruction of Toklo." This wonderfully Illustrated book tho Wednesday Study club decld ed to place In the library, not for circulation but for reference, so that anyone interested may have the pleasure of reading It. Tho afternoon's entertainment consisted In viewing and guessing the names of baby or youthful pic tures of members. After a de lightful visit and discussion of next year's study, tho "good times" committee served refreshments. Mrs. J. O. Grey and Mrs. H. M. Snedlcor presided at the tea table, and Mrs. W. C. Janes, the hostess, wns assisted by her committee, con sisting of Mrs. H. G. Wort man, Mrs. J. F. Ijnwrence, Mrs. N. T. Hodges, and Mrs. L. B. The program was much enjoyed by the Grunts Pass audience and K'st, who attended from Medford. Apreciation Shown Mrs. Anderson for WorkinY.W. C.A. Mrs. A. J. Anderson, president of the board of directors of the Y. W, C. A. for the past six years, was especially honored Monday evening. ' When she entered the club rooms to preside at the reg ular monthly business meeting of the board, she was greeted by the members who had assembled to surprise her, with speeches and congratulations for her faithful work in behalf of the Y. W. C. A. during her term as president. Mrs. Anderson was presented with a gift, which was given by the members of the board. Mrs. E. Iverson made the pre sentation speech after which re freshments were served by Mrs. W. F. Campbell, Mrs. Gove, Mrs. Iverson, and Mrs. Fewell. To Mrs. Anderson Is due a great deal of praise for her untiring work in the Medford "Y," with her executive ability, and wonder ful Christian character, and pleas ing personality. She has made many friends for the "Y," doing the work day by day as demanded, and spending many hours to car ry out her plans, sparing neither her time nor money for the Im provement of the club rooms, and comfort of the girls who live there. Mrs. Anderson was Instrumental in keeping the "Y" alive during a criBis which occurred, last year due to lack of funds. This year, with the help of tho community chest tho "Y" hus been re-decorated and painted inside und the yard landscaped, and many sup plies bought. At this time nearly all the rooms are rented and many organizations meet there weekly. Mrs. Mury Fewell Is the cap able house mother who looks after the home life of the girlH who reside at the "Y," Mrs. Fewell has been an inspiration to the board with her help and co-operation during the past year. Miss Warner stopped in Eugene for a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. John Gore and was guest of friends at the University of Washington, Seattle, before con tinuing her trip east. She Is a member of the University of Washington chapter of Kappa Kappa Qamma. Miss Warner will be greatly missed in social groups here, where she has played a promin ent part in musical activities for several years. She will make her home In New York.
