PAOR RRVEN ' f 'EVERYONE IN SOUTHERN OREGON READS THE MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE" MEDFORD MATL TRTBUCT, MEDFORD, OK'KfiOX, FRIT&Y. MAY 10, .1930. TEST LUBRICATING OF OIL , Demonstrating the staying and lubricating qualities of the Union Oil company's now extra mileage motor' oil, Motorito, Ted Simpson, well known California race driver, recently completed two coast runs of more than 1300 miles each with a De Soto Straight Eight with the rankcase of the car sealed. In. the first test, Simpson filled he crankcnse of the car with eight ijuarts of Motor! te in San Diego, sealed It, and ran the entire dis tance of 1565 miles to Seattle; at an average speed of 38.97 miles per hour, without adding new oil. Jle repeated the performance on the return trip from Seattle to IjOs Angeles, a distance of 1327 miles, making the, run at an average speed of 41.20 miles per hour. On s inu iiuiuici u ,u uj no iuiiowuu ino it coast ; route, completing the last six hundred miles in rain. On the I run south he went by way, of San Joaquin valley with the tempera ture ranging above 90 degrees for the latter part of the trip., At no time, according to Simp son, did the gauge on the 'Instru ment board indicate more than a normal driving, temperature, even on the long mountain grades. Only one quart of water was used in the car on the run from San - Diego to Seattle, and less than that amount on the return run. . . ,. Indicating the remarkablo resis tance of the nil to dilution, the oil grained from the crankcase of the ar at the conclusion . of the 1555 nilcs of driving showed a gasoline dilution of only 1.5 per cent. The viscosity,' or body, of the oil was found to be heavier at the end of the run than when , it was put in tho crankcase, indicating that the oil had not thinned with use. The slightly . more than four quarts of nil drained from the crankcase in Los Angeles, when tested in the .Union Oil company's research la boratories, at "Wilmington, was found to contain 1.4 per cent gaso line. As in the case of the Seattle test, the viscosity of the oil was found to - be heavier than it was before it was put into the crank- case. $ At the conclusion of the two -I'runs Simpson declared that the itest had proved to him the effici ent lubricating qualities of the new oil as well as Its endurance..
