Crews chose as her magazine article the story of the Japanese cheery trees in our na tional capital, found in tho last Literary Digest. Mrs, Crews also read some amusing poems depict ing the early life in Alaska, from the Frontlet Magazine. This is very much a northwest magazine. In which most of Its contributors are residents of this western coun try. Birthday Dinner for Hev. Wallace Friday Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Campbell of S04 Fast Main street, gave a de lightful dinner Friday evening In honor of the dot li birthday of Mrs. Campbell's father, Hev. 11. Jl. Wallace. Hev. Wallace Is a retired .Metho dist minister, anil a veteran of the Civil war, coming from Spring Valley, Minnesota, several years a go, he has m a d e h is h o m e wit h his daughter. Rev. Wallace has made many friends In Med ford where he Is widely known for his wonderful Christian character and remarkable power of activity for one of his years. After the guests assembled nl the charming home of Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, they were enter tained by Hev. Wallace who recit ed poetry, and told stories, and talked on all the current topics of the day until the dinner hour, when to his surprise he found the table decorated with flowers, and a large birthday cake with the figures Uu In colors Mnd many candles burning brightly. Hev, Wallace performed the ceremony of blowing out the candles, and the cake was cut and passed to his guests. Hev. Wallace posed several times for his picture, and enjoyed opening his many greeting ranis - ""'! Tollefson Entertains Guild An interesting program of music and stunts, spiced with lots of humor was enjoyed by members of the Crater Lake Guild of the First l'resbyterian church at the meeting held at the home of Mrs. T. P. Tollefson, Central I'oiut. Monday evening. There were about 35 members present ami Mrs. li. K. McFlhose, who plans to leave Medford soon for Grants Pass, where Mr. McKlhose will be trans ferred, was a guest of honor. Among charter members of the organization present were M rs. Ivlla Pennington and Mrs. Lor raine Thomas. Members, who took part in the sk its presented were : M rs. Dade Terrett, Mrs. Kunlce Hlllis. Mrs. lOmily Dynan, Mrs. Sadie Howard and Mrs. Berna Field. Mermaid Tavern To llvc Two Plays Jo Anne Smith is directing two plays being put on by members of the Mermuld Tavern at tho Guild Hall Thursday evening. Muy 22. "Embers" by John Mlddloton Is to be presented with Hoberta Stearns, Winifred Warner, Charles Barnes and John Roddy in the cast. Hariet Kayser, Clyde Davis, Vic tor Dallaire, Bob Nelson, and Jewell Waddoll will take part la "Aria Da Capo," written by Edna St. Vincent Mlllay. This play is a combination of Harlcnuim play and a pastoral tragedy. It is written in blank verso. The next regular meeting of the Mermaid Tavern will bo held at the home of Miss Roberta Stearns, May 19. This club has been con tributing book reviews for some time to the Medford Mall Tribune. At the club meeting, William Dougherty and Norris Porter will recite "The Congo" and other poems by Vachel Llndsey. t Visits Campus M rs. Tom Fuson ami daughter, Clara May, returned to Medford the early part of the week from Eugene, where they spent the week end visiting friends at tho University of Oregon. While there Miss Fuson was guest of tMlss Betty Janes of this city at tne Alpha Chi Omega house. Mrs. Ctarabelle Elliott, who has been visiting In San Francisco for the past month, has returned to Medford. While in the southern city she was guest of honor at sev eral social events.
