thn bucking of the utuie of Oregon.
This developed yesterday ufternoim
at a conference hero between C. R.
Williamson, a Klamath county coin
missioner. and (lovernor Norblad.
The refund to be asked repre
sents the amount that, din-inn the
last 10 years, would have been
paid in taxes by federal owned In
dian reservation lands had they
been privately owned, Including
also the amount that the county
has spent in the construction of
schools, roads, bridges and ferries
and other Improvements on the res
ervation. State Interested
The state is inierested In the
plan for the reason that the county
promises, in event of success, that
it will pay the stale what would
huve accrued in state taxes on the
land ill 10 years. It is estimated
' that this would amount to sxOO.imhi.
(iovernor NnrbVul will telesiuph
the Orefion delegation in congress

It is conceded that the govern
ment obligation claimed by the
county is not a legal one. but a
moral one. Though the county
has no revenue whatever from the
lands it is bald that construction
of highways on the reseivations
