Will Have Mcethijc The fall meeting of the Jackson County Council Parents and Teach ers will bo held at the Med ford senior high school, Mcdford, on Saturday. November 2, beginning at 10 a. m. Mrs. Carl Fichtner. president of the Medford city coun cil, will have charge of the lunch eon and program. Mr8. Norma Reeder of Ashland, county presi dent, will preside. This first meet ing of the season Is being looked forward to with great interest, and will no doubt be well attended by thn different circles all over the county. " There will be a report of the state convention at Grunts Pass, and many Items of general Interest will be discussed. Oregon Miilc Teachers Will Have Dinner Party The Jackson county chapter of the Oregon Music Teachers asso ciation will entertain the music teachers of the community In the parlors of the First Methodist church tomorrow evening. October H8. Dinner will bp served at 7:00 o'clock and will be followed by an informal program. Dr. Arnold Bennett Hall, president of the un iversity will be the speaker of the evening. Social Events of Church Societies Kp worth Juniors . -4 Entertain Parents The Upworth Juniors of the South Methodist church entertain ed their parents with a 6:80 din ner at the church on the 9th of October. About sixty-five were present. Some of the children dressed to represent the- countries whore work Is carried on. A short program consisting of songs and recitations was given by the chil dren, which was enjoyed by all. Mrs. TollefHim Hostess Missionary Society The Women's Missionary society of the Presbyterian church met for their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Tollefson in Cen tral Point on Tuesday afternoon, October 1R. This meeting -holds the record for the year in attend ance. We are praising 'our Lord for Increased Interest. The foreign topic India, was very ably handled by Mrs. McMath and the national topic. Alaska, by Mrs. Hanby.'Both Addresses were very instructive and interesting. The social time was In the hands of the hostess assisted by Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Holt. - Social Meeting of South Methodist Missionary Society ' The social meeting of the Mis sionary society of the South Meth odist church was held on Tuesday, October 15 at the homo of MrJ. Hurry Kyle, 415 Newtown. r Mrs. William IUce had charge of the program and several mem bers took part In the program. 1 After the program was over there was a short discussion as to the bazaar to be held conn. The hostess sen'cd refreshments. Auxiliaries Hold (roup Meetings The Medford and Williams Aux iliaries of the Women's Mission ary society of the M. K. Church South, held a group meting at the Williams church last .Wednes day with about forty present, In cluding guests from Grants Pass and Koseburg. : The morning was spent In vis iting and at noon all were eager to crowd around the tables set under the trees In the church yard and do Justice to all the goon i things s et thereon, which included Ik fried chicken, venison, real country f cream, etc. The table were decor 1 ated with beautiful roses brought from Grants Pass. After feasting was ovei all re paired to the church where an in teresting meeting in the Interest of missionary work was held. Mrs. Penhall of Honeburg, the new dis trict secretary, presided. In addition to her words of ad vice and encouragement several topics of special Importance were prevented by members of the aux iliaries Special music and a short sketch called "The Rejuvenation of the Missionary Society." were added features. U. met In regular session at the Y. W. C. A. Thursday afternoon, October 24. ' A splendid program was present ed by Mesdamcg W. T. Berry and A. E. Cudney including a talk on liquor conditions as recently ob served In Denmark by Mrs. Sam uel Bateman; talk on the import ance of education in temperance by Elder Theumler. Reading, Extracts of the Life of Francis E. Willard, by Mrs. S. L. Leonard. Professor and Mrs. T. H. Folk enberg favored the gathering with two piano and violin duets, "Souv enir of Lubeck," and "At Sunset." and an exceptional beautiful solo rendered by Prof Parrlsh, entitled "I Love a Little Cottage," accom panied by Mrs. Parrlsh, was also highly appreciated. A solo given by Mrs. Raymond Do run, "The Great Judgment Day," with Mrs. Thomas at the piano, was very well received. What a" great pity, when such worth while speakers and talented musicians as these take of their busy hours to contribute to our meetings, more of the people of Medford do not by their presence at the W. C. T. U. meetings show their appreciation of such dis tinct favors. County Superintendent of Schools Carter had literature sent to all the schools of Jackso county as suggestions In the observance of Frances E. Willard day in the var ious school programs Friday after noon. The city school, under Sup erintendent Hedrlck, also observed Frances E. Willard day with suit able programs. The First M. E. church will observe Frances E. Willard day Sunday and will show the moving picture, "The Transgressor," dur ing tho evening services. This Is nn educational picture and all peo ple at all interested In health and morality should sec it. Before the close of the fortieth annual convention of the National Association of Life Underwriters, held recently In Washington, D. C, the -managing director of tho or ganisation, Roger B. Hull, called attention to President Hoover's law observance program, and urged its support, reminding his hearers that respect for law should be a cardinal concern of life Insurance salesmen, whose business It is to Insure prosperity, and that with out a' stable government it would be impossible for tho life Insur ance business to exist In any coun try. A month ago it was that the citizens and officials of the little town of Inantico, Va., had to face the question of losing 0 per cent of Its retail trade gr getting rid of bootleggers. The order was Is sued by Major-General S. D. But ler, commander of the Inantico marine base, which practically surrounds and supports the two year old town, prohibiting enlisted men from entering tho place, and the stores and amusement places were virtually deserted. Following a conference between the mayor and the general, a campaign ngnlnst liquor sellers and other un desirables was instituted at once, and within 10 days tho town was cleaned up and tho marines were allowed to return. Sixty answered to roll call with verses of Scripture. Forty four calls were made In tho month of October.- Mrs. Frank Albert road a paper on prophesies of the Bible. She proved by Scripture how nil through the ages ull the prophesies J of the Bible had come truo as lt had been prophesied. The birth of Christ was foretold in the Book of Genesis and age after age brings forth some new fulfilment of prophesy and will until all have been fulfilled. Then will come Christ's second coming. Mrs. O. D. Flodgkins then sang! one of her favorite hymns which' was much -enjoyed. - Miss Ruth Abelc gave a talk on Ancient nnd Modern Rome. She spent the past summer In Homo and her impres sions of Mussolini is quite differ ent than what we get from the general news.
