The Detroit trnde is not familiar with the Bosc, the committee has learned, and confused them with the D'Anjous and other winter va rieties. So the salesman is going among them with samples of both pears as a means of education. Mnnv Detroit dealers have D'An- jou pears stacked in piles in green condition and so hard as to defy human tee'th to penetrate. These unripened D'Anjous fail to sell. The Bosc pear is, however, meet ing with a highly favorable recep tion from the trade and the ulti mate consumer, due to extensive publicity, and the fact the Boscs arc ripened and ready for eating. Like the rest of the world, De troiters prefer dainties they can cl ew without waiting for them to ripen on tho pantry ehelf or be hind the stove. Five Cents Each Retailers are selling Boscs In Detroit at 6 cents each, or two pounds for 25 cents. . This seems to he Ihe limit. In the opinion of tjio Detroit committee, regardless of prices paid this year, there Is no ques tion as to the success of this cam paign. Formerly 15 per cent of tho retails trade were familiar with llosc. Today 100 per cent of the Made know something about the llosc and before the campaign is over it is assumed every fruit ven der in Detroit will know the dif ference between the Bosc and oth er varieties. liquor runner PORTLAND, Ore..
