That this is not an imau'inary benefit is shown by the I'aet that, aecordin' to reliable statistics, the housewives of South ern Oregon the past year saved iflX.IHM) i.n reduced freight rates on sunar alone. If this is possible uihler present conditions, it is easy to see bow the savino. would be increased if a shorter nnd more direct route were constructed. TlllMiK is another important, benefit which this "eiil-on"' would hriur. not only to Klamath and A.shlnuil, but to every community in Southern Oregon including (irants I'ass. ICveryone knows the motor tourist dislikes to rctnice his steps, to over the same ground twice. Ie is out to see new country, to see new sights; his time is invariably limited, and it' he can lio to a certain place by one route and return by another lb' almost invariably docs so.t If he can't do this, be .sometimes abandons the special excursion entirely. At present the Oregon Caves are bottled up, as Crater Laic was a piartcr of a century asr". Kvcry tourist, to see them, must drive in -11 miles and return those same -I I miles before lie can start fur another point. .Moreover, the tourist coiniiio; into the state via Klamath or Ashland must not only lake this tedious baclt-track. but he must go to (irants l'uss, then down to the Caves and back ajjniii WITH this cut-off, however, he could fjo direct to the Caves, at n savin"; of 28 miles, not retrace his steps a foot, and continue his journey over an entirely new route; either via Grants l'uss nnd the Taeifie Highway, or via Crescent City and the Redwood. In the same way the tourist from the north could go direct 'to the Caves, and, nfiniu without retracing his steps, continue on to Jl'cdford, Ashland or Klamath Falls and see an other entirely new portion of .Oregon. Wc fail to see how any fair-minded person can deny that this improvement would stimulate tourist travel to the Caves, and directly benefit every district, in this part of the state. So wc repeat that this Williams Creek cut-off is the sort of project that grows in importance anil necessity, the more it is studied. We don't care from what angle, it is approached, only one conclusion to our mind can be logically and fairly reached, namely, that, its construction is demanded by every consideration of .Southern Oregon's better welfare and proper development. In spite id' iho increase in seating rapacity of our bascliall parks, this increase has nol 1 u able to keep up with the public de mand, when tho final championship is staged. No one knows why the process of development Is Interrupted or de layed in cases of. harelip, cleft pal ale, clubfoot, spina bifida and the like.
