She was seized with convulnlons
last niKht as she was preparing for
examination In a private sanitar
ium on Park avenue conducted by
Dr. Edward S. .Cowles, nerve spe
cialist. Her secretary, who had accom
panied her to tho sanitarium, and
nurses called a physician, but
when he examined her she was
dead.
After an autopsy, Dr. Thomas A.
Oonzales, assistant chief medical
examiner, said death was caused
by alcoholic psychosis. He said a
chemical analysis of the vital or
gans would be made.
"It's the same old story, nothing
unusual," Dr. Gonzales said, "Miss
Katies died of alcoholism, not
from acute alcoholism but from
alcoholc psychosis. She had been
acliiiK stranKt-ly for three or four
days but had not taken a drink in
two days."
She was preparing to return to
Hrondway after an absence of 18
months enforced by her suspension

as a success. The second was re
leased only recently.

In 1923 Miss Eagles' engage
ment to Whitney Warren, Jr.. a
member of one of New York's
prominent families was announced
by her molhef, Mrs. Julia Eagles.
It was denied later by Warren's
father.
She was married to Edward
Harris (Ted ) Coy, famous Yale
football star, In August 1925. This
marriage was ended by a divorce
in Chicago In July 1128. In her
greatest success "Kain," she play
ed the part of Sadie Thompson, of
the underworld who Is reformed
by a missionary at I'ago Pago In
the rainy season when the ship on
which she Is fleeing is detained by
a quarantine. She retrogresses at
the minister's instigation. Coy

away suddenly on Tifc-sday night
from heart trouble.

as parents and friends could wish.
