building last year, is maintaining
a first aid station only, this year.
The school exhibits represent many
months of collecting the best
specimens of students' school work
from the first grade to the HUh.

FAIR TO ATTRACT

Ashland schools opened
fm the year with very little waste
to teachers or pupils as everything
was in readiness for the opening
day. The enrollment which was
slightly over 1 000 on opening day
is gradually increasing and will go
to a possible 111)0 by the close of
tho week. Some ofthe hoys and
girls have been working in ' the
fruit. Adjustments will be mado
as some of tho rooms have more
than capacity enrollment.
High school enrollment is in the
neighborhood of 2ti, with dally
additions. Fall work still delays
some of the entrants and a few are
working in the lumber camps.
Public schools of Ashland will
close Friday noon to give pupils
an opportunity to attend the coun
ty fair. The schools will not, how
ever, be dismissed on children's;
day on Thursday, and any who ar
out on that day will have to bring
excuses when they return to
school.
Dr. tt. L. lturdic has been named
by the board of directors of the
chamber of commerce to fill the
vacancy on the board which was
created by the resignation of W. P.
Waller, who recently mo veil to
Portland. Mr. Hurdic's term will
end with the fiscal year of the
board, which will close on .March
1st.

bigger event than ever before.

that all business houses close in
compliance with the proclamation
which was Issued by Mayor J. K.
Thornton. The schools will also be
closed, so there is promise of a big
