this structure was not suitable forj
the passage of the heavy loads;
and traffic the Midway highway'
would bring, and that the cost
of putting- it in shape would bo t
about $12,000. The new bridge!
will cost about $14,000. The!
county court holds that It would
be the better part of economy to
build a new one, in the first place,
and save money and the trouble
of tearing out the old one in a
couple of years.
Plans for the new bridge have
been drawn and were discussed
j this morning at- the regular ses
sion of the county court.
Tho bridge will bo constructed
this summer, and be completed
with the official opening of the
new highway. Tho right of way
has been cleared, and the work of
rcncing same is now under way.
The county court also
morning announced, a curtailment
policy In the care of Indigents,
following a report from the county
clerk that for the first five months
of this year, with all the May
bills not recorded the sum of
$S570 ai had . been expended but
of a budget allowance of $15 000
This Included care of . the poor
at the poor farm,'' In hospitals,
and in neither.

athletics at the University of
Michigan, who on several occasions
has announced his retirement as
football coach only to take up
leadership with tho opening of the
gridiron season, has permanently
retired, he said today.
"I will never coach again under
any condition; I have permanently
retlrod, he said.
The statement was made after
Yost had admitted that Elton E
(Tad) Wfeman would not be
member of the football coaching
statr next fall.
Asked who woultf coach the
team, Yost said: "Our coaching
plans for football have not been
completed. I expect to complete
them soon.
