The Pick of the Big Silent Pictures TO OPEN JUNE 10 AT J STARTS TOMORROW A GAY, JAZZY WHIRL OF FUN AND EXCITE MENT. . MARY ASTOR : ' in '" 1 . ' m LAST TIMES TONIGHT VICTOR McLAGLEN IN "CAPTAIN LASH" Also LAUREL and HARDY COMEDY The third annual summer school of the Medford city system will open June 10, .for a six weeks-; period, under the direction ofl Charles Glen Smith who has dl-' rected the work ot these session;.! for the past two years. About i uaaimniii leacncrs will ne em ployed, drawn from the city eorns. and selected because fitness for the work they will do. These are not definitely named until the reftistratlon of the pupils and the work necessary to be of fered ia known. , , The' school Is designed to ac commodate all grades, from first to 12th. Sessions will be held In the junior hluh school building from 8:00 a. m. until 12:00 m. dully. , Tho objects of tile school, ac cording to , Superintendent . Jled rick, are iargely remedial . and make-up work for pupllB who have hud difficulty In the regu lar sessions because of absence or other reasons. At the close of the regular year each teacher for any subject or grade must file a detailed report of every pupil under her charge, who has failed in one or more subjects. These reports state the causes of failure In so fur as known and just where the. pupil is weak, so that the summer school teacher need lose no time in going directly to the spot with him and apply ing the remedial work. In rare cases, high school pu pils of exceptional ability are given permission to do a semes ter's work in a new subject, such as English, history, civics or math ematics, but this is not encouraged as It is felt that tho time Is too short to do Justice to such an amount of new work. There Is little formal class work; the school Is organized on the Individual method plnn. and every effort is made to give each pupil the special coaching and help ho most needs. Usually from 90 to 100 pupils attend the summer sessions and are able to make up their .sub ject work to such an extent that they avoid having to repeat tho grade in regular year, thus saving themselves much tim. and the district the expense of keeping them another half year In school. All pupils who desire to take sum mer work must register for tho courses they desire to take on or before Saturday. June 7. Pu pils may register with Mrs. Esther Fleigel at the Junior high school or Charles Glen Smith at the senior high school. A tuition fee of $7.60 for the six weeks Is charged each pupil to help defray the cost of the school. This Is due in advance and should be paid to Charles Glen, Smith Mon- i flay morn'ng, June.10. -' ' ' Registration of .pupns nr.t he comnleted until tho. failure report is had from the pupil's regular teacher, fupiis noi iuium clully able to pay tuition or fur nish hooks, vet who need the sum mer work, should see the city school superintendent, tnlra iioor, Medford building. .
