PAOE ElfillT MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD. PRECOX, FRIDAY, MAY 10, 1920. HONORS EN HEALTHY YOUNG AFTER PARADE! One thousand school children ot Medford, wearing tj.t colors of their resiwctive schools and carrying banners announcing their right to enter the moving exhibition of 1O0 per cent health, marched through the down town section of the city this afternoon at 1:30. The streets were lined with Interested and en thusiastic spectators who applaud- j cd the school children as they j passed. The parade was led by the high ' school band tinder the direction of ! Wilson Wailo, which furnished spirited numbers for the parade. Then followed tho large body of Junior high school boys and girls wbo have pr-ssed tho test of per fect health. Roosevelt school, with Its orange nnd white caps, was next in line, and then Lincoln, with Its bluo nnd gold, Jackson with Its green and yellow, and Washington with its blue and white. Many of the little girls In the latter group wore Ked Cross symbols across their heads. 'Small yell lorf'ers, dressed In white costumes and wearing Jaunty caps, led the various groups in yells . that demonstrated by volume as well as by sentiment that they were anything but frail. The primary ' grade children beamed their 100 per cent perfec tion out at the spectators from the trucks which carried them through the long line of march and waved their hands to their admirers on the streets below. The trucks were followed by sev eral long buses which carried ad ditional small school children. Each school was accompanied by its own teachers who guided the chifdren through the strents, with the assistance of Bedford's trufTic department and members of the health unit. . At the exercises at the city park Superintendent ot Schools Hedrick acted as chairman. Ho Introduced Mayor A. W. 1'lpes, who addressed tho youngsters and Implored tho boys to "always keep their hair combed" and the girls "to keep their hnlr curled." Carl Bwlgart. chairman of the: board of education, presented the' prizes and Miss Josenhlne .lonoo school nurse, presented the health trophy. ' At the conclusion of the exercises the henlth children were given Ice cream through the courtesy of the Jackson County Health association.
