We have ony one siifrjrestion, for the Weather Man that is con tained in the Hollywood ejaculation: "Okeh Hold it!'' Don't be iu a rush to clear clouded while the heat is gradually turned' on and until the temperature has risen to the safely point. Then bring on your sunshine, let the pear trees spriiifr into full bloom, and again "hold it" until about the 10th of May, ; That program would seem simple enough. It is really very little to ask. . On the Pacific Coast, ns a whole, the Weather Man has done enough damage, for one season at least. That the Rogue lliver Valley has thus far escaped material damage should not relieve the Weather Man from the duty of behaving himself from now on. j And if he does behave himself, how popular ho will be! AN EASY WAY THE oil-macadam road from Medford to the golf club is show ing signs of wear and tear. This is one of the most import ant and heavily traveled highways in the country. It was con structed by the state highway commission, the expense being An oil-macadam rond is not a pavement not a permanent hard-surface highway. The most important thing about it is its maintenance. And the most nance is prompt repair. , Tho time to start on this repuir is NOW, before the surface conditions are bad, instead of after. In no department does the old atlage, "A stitch in time saves nine," apply more forci bly than in the nuitter of good roads. . To put this road in good condition will cost very little now. In two or three months the cost will be 100 per cent greater. We trust the City and County will put repair crews on this road at the earliest possible moment, and thus save money for themselves and the taxpayers. PRESERVE OUR TTIIK movement to keep bill-board advertising from the Hed- wood Highway should receive the enthusiastic support of the people. ' ( The natural beauties or tin; Pacific Highway, from Seattle to San Diego, have been shamefully impaired by the parade of tobacco, cigarette, tire, tooth paste and motor ear ads, through which the tourist must drive. Kven more deplorable conditions exist on the Atlantic Coast, the, highways out' of New York City being little more than lanes bounded oil both sides by towering bill boards which liidu the landscape comple'tely.! " " ...-.Ji - i' -" Once highway ads have been placed it is almost impossible to have them removed. 'There arc comparatively few along the Kedwood Highway. And' as a result the drive from here to San Kranciseo, via the coast, is one of the finest motor trips in the United States. The people of Oregon.and California should get together now and see that, no more billboards are placed on this highway, so that the natural beauties of tliis great tourist asset may be pre served not onlv for this generation, but for the generations to come. - L E PYLE'S COLUMBUS. It Is cruel and horrible to ridi cule a deformity for which the victim himself is not to blame. Only children too young to know, and older persons of deflcent mentality, feel or show cither amusement or dislike or contempt for a deformed Individual. But Just tho same, any body should be ashamed of a bun ion in this day of hygiene even In footwear. A bunion is a deformity for which the victim himself Is to blame, or his guardian is. In my estimation a bunion Ls a hideous deformity compared 'with hunch back or clubfoot or congenital hip disease, because neither the victim nor his guardian Is In any way to blame for any of these other de formities. I place victims of bun Ion only a little higher In the scale of intelligence than those sordid or misguided folk who voluntarily submit to the mutilation of tattoo ing as a personal adornment. Tho cause of bunion is the hnblt of wearing shoes that do not con form even reasonably well with the shnpe and size of the feet.
