The fine new business structure, which has a frontage of 12(1 feet on Central, avenue and 100 feet on Eighth: street, covers three parcels of property, formerly owned by " Carrie K. G. Carnnhan, John A. Perl and William Hammetl, and represents an Investment by tho owner, Walter U. Leverette, of ap proximately siafi.ooo. The largest user of Bpace in tho building is the Montgomery-Ward company store, which has nego tiated a ten-year lease for the south 76 l'eot on the Central ave nue street level and will also use tho corresponding hnsement area. This location gives the local branch of the great merchandising corpora tion a magnifieont sweep of show windows and a vast expanse - of floor space. Tho specifications for Iho equipment installed in the Montgomery-Ward section of tho building were prepared by tho con struction department of the corpo ration's Chicago headquarters and . are the most, modern development, nf mercantile experience, including stool freight chutes, elevntorsj dis play counters, etc. Tho show windows are eight feet deep, with copper trim and so ar ranged ns to preclude "fogging" In the winter time through condensa tion of moisturo on the slims. The window display space is finished with birch panel backing nnd sus pended ceilings with the new Tex tone finish. Immediately north of the Montgomery-Ward store Is the State theatre, owned and operated by CI. A. Roy. The theatre occupies a room 25 by 100 feet and is equip ped with the moat modern Instal lation of projecting machinery, il lumination, air-cushion Dents and other features with pleasins Inte rior decoration and convenience for patrons. Negotiations are now pending for the lease of the large corner store room opace, fronting on Cen tral and Eighth. It is tho desire of the owner to accept only perma nent and substantial tenants whose requirements will Include the 4000 square feet of basement space available for the .street level occu pant. Tho Wardwell V"ur company will occupy quarters fronting on Eighth street, especially designed for the needs of the rapidly expanding bus- : iness of the concern which hns j been located in. Medford for some: years. E. C. Corn, Medford realtor, will move his office to the room east j of that occupied by the fur com ' pany. Mr. Corn hns been ldenti- ! fled with a number of large realty i transactions In Medford and vlcln-! ity and the growth of his business : requires the more commodious ! quarters. ! ' The second story of the new j building contains 34 rooms in which ! tho plumbing nnd heating systems , have been roughed in, although the i work of finishing the rooms Is awaiting negotiations with pros pective tenants whose special re-, qulrements will necessitate ar-1 rangements peculiar to their needs. , General construction work of tho I Leverette block was contracted by j W. H. Morrltt, whose experience In major building operations ex tends back over a period of ninny vears, the past eight of which hav-i l)een spent In Medford. Remodel ing of the Masonic (emple. building an additional story on the Hotel Medford and the Gates garage building are a Tew ot the Jobs han dled here hy Mr. Merrltt in recent years. . From foundation to cornice the building represents the highest class of material nnd workmanship, according to Mr. Ixjverette. The foundation work of extra heavy re inforced concrete was done with the idea In view of adding two more stories in the course of time. The basement is full cement and waterproof and a solid cement wall runs the full course of the struct ure, from ground to roof, dividing the portion occupied hy the Montgomery-Ward store from the bal ance and making the fire, hazard correspondingly less. The wiring, plumbing and, In short, every fac tor entering Into the work, was .dnnp. under specifications drawn lo meet the latest Inspection requirements. j Steel lath throughout, nil cietnl 1 iceiliiiKa and modern heating instnl jlutlon are further siU'cKinirils de ' slsned to make for permunenee and reduce fire danger. The Fox electrically welded holl er! wolghliiK "000 pounds, furnishes steam lor the three distinct heat- i ing systems used. As described hy William A.
