tion today as to the cause of the
defeat, but the general one as
signed was that of indifference to
the issue, and that many voters
forgot all about tho election until
too late. Another reason put for
ward was that too little previous
notice had been given of the elec
tion, ln view of the fact that some
time previous to yesterday's elec
tion, in accordance with the law,
