I "NEW OIL KEEPS TOR "The presence of grease or oil on brake linings has a decided ef fect on the operation of brakes. ' Oreat care should be used when lubricating steering knuckle, king pins and wheel bearings to ascer tain that no surplus grease or oil js forced into the bra ke mechanism." On these sizzling- hut lays when ; your mo lor meter climbs into the j red and your radiator top begins! to give an Imitation of a whale j coming up to spout off, it may be J interesting to know what is going; on fnside of vour motor. "These brakes are characterized by three outsianding features, the action. "Servo" means that the weight of the car is used to apply the brake pressure. Thus the pres- ui" action is mild possibly be exerted by hand or foot through the usual brake Utn)ge. 'The liendlx brakes used on all Duranl models are constructed with three lined shoes known as the primary, secondary and auxil iary shoes. The auxiliary and sec ondary shoes are anchored at one s not withstand heuti1-"- IO u,' '""'"'o pane ny means ot anchor noits, wnicn are adjust able. The primary shoes is hinged to the secondary shoe so that they move together. When the operat ing cam pushes the primary and auxiliary shoes against the drum, the primary shoe, being free to move, is dragged by the contact 'In the direction nt tin rotation of the drum. This movement of the pri mary Shoe forces both itself and the secondary shoe more lightly against the drum and so increases the braking effect. Thti a tremendous part in the operation jsure caused by s ..r vour motor. It must not onlv much greater than flow freely but must be capable of withstanding tl" tremendous iieat. In the main, there are two types A oil, each of which performs one of these functions excellently. Min eral oil can he produced with a viscosity which allows it to flow freely, rnfortunately, how mineral oil d and shock as effectively as some vegetable oils. On the other hand, these vegetable oils cannot be pro duced with proper viscosity or 1 ratlier will not retain proper vis cosity that permits them to flow freely . They have a tendency to gum. in spite of this, however, in racing pars 'and aeroplane en gines, where proper lubrication is not only a matter of mechanical precaution but sometimes a matter of safety for the driver, a vegetable oil was always used castor oil. There has now been perfected a lubricating oil which combines both Ihe free fbiwing properties of the mineral oil with tin heat resis tance of castor oil. This lubricant is (.'astorlube. The secret of its production lies In the new process (patents pending) of de-gumming and blending the two types of oil to produce a perfect lubricant. Through its ability to withstand heat and at the same time flow freely, it effects a considerable re duction in motor heat and friction and forms less carbon. t'astor lube's heat resisting nua lilies b-ngthen its usefulness in giving more mileage to eacn quart m on, and smoother, easier a jierforumnco of the motor E BUILDS PLANTS Intensive additions, to a ( total cost of SD..IO11.1MU1. h ive been begun by the Craham-I'aige Motors t'or poration at its main plant in this city and at its body plants ' at 'Wayne, Mich., and Kvansville.
