ment here last night, "I am pro
foundly convinced that Governor
Smith cannot and will not be nom

were drowned and Omar White was
rescued shortly before midnight
Saturday night when the automo
bile driven by MIhs Cassldy plung
ed through the chains on the Ma
rion -l'olk county forry operating
on the Willamette river here, and
sank In about 10 feet of water.
Though grap piers have been
busy, the bodies of the two young
women had not been foftnd this
morning. The machine, with lights
still burning, was dragged from the
river Sunday morning.
The two young women have been
living at the Held Hack hop ranch
on the Marlon county side of the
river and were on their way home
when the accident occurred. It Is
believed .Miss Cassldy gave her car
too much gas when she started the
motor to make room for another
car on the ferry.
White managed to reach some
willows hanging over the river ev-i
