Other speakers of the day were Henry Endeis of Ashland who also told about Klamath, nml JIon Fabrick. who asked the Kiwanis club to give over their meeting on May Jl to the chamber of com merce for the purpose of present ing speakers who will explain the national air tour. The speakers for that day are to he the follow ing: Tex Rankin of Portland, T. K. Therkelsen, director the National Air association and H. V. I'ciers nnd Charles Kchols, members of the Oregon Aero club. D. J. Warner reminded the Ki wanis club that this is Air Mail week, and urged the cooperation of local residents with the service In putting the week over success fully. That the postmaster general Is taking an active interest in furtherance of the air mail service and is anxious for its continued success nnd development, was stat ed by the speaker. S. H. Smith spoke on the one mill levy which has been put on the ballot for tho completion of the fair ground buildings, and urged the voters to get behind the proposition. Unless the issue goes through, it will' be 1 in possible to hold the fair this year, he said. The attendance prize today was won by Klwaninn Klncker, it being n $2.5 gold piece, furnished by Ur. Kresse. is WIr Ashpole, mentioned by a re juvenated Jackson county democ racy as n candidate for county commissioner, and recommended f it an ma liv o fontit muni in f rt f and does not think much of the Idea. Mr. Ashpole returned Satur day from Klamath county, where he drove a large herd of cattle. "I have more work to do than I can handle comfortably," said Mr. Ashpole, "and It would he just a thank-yon job, and besides I would not Ret enough votes to flag a hand car, and, with the cows where they are, and how they are, 1 don't feel like 1 want to make a run for of fice." Mr. Ashpole reports the Klamath ran-;e in first-class condition with tho grass tall and sweet, and the stockmen getting setting Rood prices for their cattle. The affair will start at 8 p. m. with -4ie usual American Legion meeting which will be short and snappy with the usual order of business being dispensed with. Then will come music by the legion 10-piece orchestra, enter tainment features and a boxing and wrestling card put on by legionnaire Jack Wood. The Howne property formerly belonged to John Tomlin. and was laid out and the residence cun structid by (leurge Putnam, for mer editor of the Mail Tribune and now editor of the Salem Capital Journal. It Is one of the most at tractive residences in the city. The Jackson county fair Is con ceded everywhere to he the host fair In Oregon outside of the state fair, and with the Improvements contemplated throiiKh the use of the funds derived from this one mill tax. we can safely say there will he none hotter on the Pacific coast. Our fair should he the pride of Jackson county nnd even tually it is the desire of the asso ciation to hold our fair without any charge for admission, thus making- It possihle for everyone to attend and make it tho largest at tended fair in tho state. It Is your fair, run solely for the benefit of our county, and un doubtedly a great asset to It. Therefore, I am appealing to the voters of Jackson county to sup port this measure and help to make the Jackson county fair the biggest and best ever, and the pride of tho state of Oregon as a whole. I ' ' . : 1 1 i saw P ii : v Missouri has been preparing for the dedication of its memorial to ne of its greatest sons, Champ Clark, a million-dollar bridge span ning the Mississippi river at Louisiana, Mo., and connecting that city with the state of Illinois. Formal opening of the bridge in memory of the famous speaker of the house, is scheduled for June 9. AL PICHE CATCHES A fish story, which will probably hold the prize ol' the season was related this forenoon by Al IMche, local -sporting good dealer, when he told how he caught a LMi pound salmon with his bare hands In the Rogue river yesterday .morning. I'lche swore to his story todr.y and offered to show the fish as proof. lie was fishing for trout with two small flies and wast casting his line in the river when the big salmon jumped from a riffle into a shallow pool at l'iche's feet. I'lche .lumped on the squirming fish with his knees and after ten mintiles of battling, managed to draw it on the bank.
