CP) j diaries Birger, notorious southern ; Illinois gang leader, was hanged at 9:B2 a. in. today for the murder of JIayor Joe Adams of West City. Birger was pronounced dead four minutes later. Nearly 600 spec tators were crowded Into the stockade. Mrs. E. Aarons, first wife of Bir ger, was one of the last to visit him' in his cell last night. She came from Portland, Ore., with her husband several days a';o. Arrangements were made yester day for taring for the body at an undertaking establishment here. Nathan Hlrger, the former gang leader's nephew, had a hearse on hand to convey the body to St. Louis, where it was to be taken tn the home of Mrs. Ray Shamsky, Blrger's sister, and held until the Itinera!
