TO THE PUBLIC
Statements (itiinj; iirouiul the city that house.liolders
wlio either do not hnvc gnrbngc or dispose of it by burn
ing or other siinitnry methods, are compelled by city ordi
nance to have their Kiirbaffc collected by the new gar
bage company and pay them $1.00 a month and provide
n can for yarbnge; that tho home owners themselves can
not take their own garbage to the city dump; that cither
the city has increased or authorized the new garbage
company to increase the charges for collecting garbage,
are so palpably untrue that we shall take no notice of
them, except to state, that there lias been no change in
the charges for collecting garbage and that, with the ex
ception of a few added provisions for protection of the
city, the present garbage contract is ylmost identical with
those that have been in force for tho last six or eight
years.
Statements occasionally hoard to the effect thnt the
city has given an exclusive contract or monopoly to the
new garbage company, but did not to the former garbage
people, are also untrue; nil of the garbage contracts made
by the city the last six or eight years have been exclusive
contracts and have, nil of them, included within their
terms garbage and offal from hotels and restaurants, and
there has been no change in regard to hotels and restau
rants. Anyone having complaint either regarding service or
charges for collecting garbage is requested to take the
mutter up with Mr. L. W. Phillips, manager of tho new
garbage company, at his office at Jarmin & AVoods' drug
store, where he ciin be found between the hours of 9 and
11 a. in., and in ense satisfactory adjustment cannot be
made, are requested to notify the City Hecorder in writ
ing in order that the city may make proper investigation.
By order of City Council.
