At the prenont time there are 9ti. Tho dimrict population has in C roused about 10 percent each year tor the past three years. The assessed valuation has grown from $f.0uo.ooo to about J8.000.il0o. This increase hns been brought about both by increase of property in the district and the addition of more territory to the district. To run the entire system and to pay Indebtedness Mi', lled rlck stated, requires n budget of about S?ti5,0UU. of this $1 !.. Out) has to be raised by local tax. The school tax levy in Med ford reached L'.S.'J mills in 1 U t following the building of the new high school. Hino that time the board has been a,lile to reduce It about two mills per year. In 1910 the district bonded itself for $1 S5.000 for the erection of two units of a high school building It had at the lime ?47."0 ojd in debtedness. Since 1 itllii tlie old Indebtedness has been paid and $14,000 of the new bond issue. This new Issue is only callable at the rate of about $t;uoa per year ut the present time. J.ayrnent of these bonds was spread over 20 years and ihe last of them will not he paid until l!44. ..According to the present valuailou of the dis trict it costs about two mills per year to carry this indebtedness and pay interest. . , ; ;i Mr. llodrlck :i1ho discussed the .subject of the erection of a new junior high M lioul. He staled that the board had purchased a site, as a provision for the future, but that no campaign was to be started for a. building this year. , Although the. present building is overflowing and an outside room Is now being rented, he felt that so far no great damage was being done to the utility of Instruction. He further stated that the school board anil he felt that It was better to suffer a little discomfort for a time, pay off some more of the present in debtedness and watch the situation u. vlllv before attempting a new KuiUUng. - Howvert ..should v the present rate of:growth keep Up hf both the Junior and senior high schools he Intimated that the building question would have to be faced within the next two years, because both buildings are filled at the present time. The erection of a new junior high school which would also house the ninth grade would lessen the pressure at the high school by withdrawing over lfiO In the freshman class.
