Members of the band say that each of the three times they have appeared in parade on their tour thus far It has rained. The band played lis concert oe-, tore a lar-te and enthusiastic aud ience in the Armory last ntBht at eight . o'clock. Thg concert was followed by a "never-tobe-forgot-ten'i. dance, also In the armory. The music furnished by the eight pieoo . band orchestra was of a type that is typical of the "peppy" college from which It came. The-saxophone quartet made a decided "hit" with the audience and was called back three times for encores. Special mention must be .made of Bsymond Coopey, soloist!- who. played a trumpet solo, Stars ' In a Velvety Sky" by Clarke, and of Navarre Dunn I" a slide trombone solo, "The Fav orite" by Jlartmann. The aud ience was pleased with the solos suna by Theodore Gilbert, a pupil of Haul Petri, director of music at the college, as was shown by the applause he received after each selection. These tears of the band are en tirely self-supporting as is made possible by the concerts and danoea, given In the evenings. Alumni of O. 8. C. and the Ore goni National Guards helped in making arrangements for t n e bands appearance. The band has appeared in Medford for the last 18 years, and plana are now under way to bring it back for another appearance four years from now. "Sidelights on O. S. C." a mov ing picture of the college work nd activities, was featured on the program during the Intermission of the concert Concerts were played before large audiences at Hoseburg Thursday night and at Olendale Friday night. H Is re ported that one of the largest crowds ever attending a dance pre sented by a university or college waa on hand at the Boseburs dance. , With olive drab military uni forms complete to leather leggings and orange-lined capes, the band presented an appearance that is in harmony with the quality of music It plays. Drilled to march with precision and led by an ex-foriKiii-eit drum maior. the band received much favorablo comment , from the towns visited on its 1200-. n. i.i,. One of the two chapters of the national honorary band frat ernity, Kappa, Kappa Psl, granted to Institutions west of the KocKy Mountains is at the college. Kvery sprliuj during the vacation the band makes a concert tour of the state of Oregon together with parts of the neighboring states. Four routes are planned out sof the state and the trip Is made, over each ono ovory four vears. "We have met with much favor able response from the towns we bare visited In past seasons and on -this tour that wo feel Justi fied In continuing our tours, says Captain Heard.
