However, he slated that as he understood it there would be no danger of damaging frost here j nw, except at about 21 de- I grees. With his assistant, Mr. Kog- I ers, who has been here since last week, Mr. Young planned to visit the orchards thruout the valley this afternoon on his first period ' of inspection. The old fi'ost gentleman was amiable, feeling good, und very glad to be back again in this val- ! ley of beauty and cold spring j water. As usual, he will reside at the University club during his stay , in tho city. While he likes his I resilient co-woi'kers here immense ly, yet he misses his co-workor of years past until two years ago, C. C. Cale, former county agent for 10 years. Speaking of the conditions in j the citrus fruit belt of California, i which passed thru quite a frost j and smudging season, M r. Young saitl that that state would have a large and profitable citrus crop, as little damage was done by frost and despite the fuet that much damage was caused by blows on the orchards, Mr. Young also stated that he was much pleased with the local outlook in preparations for com batting frost, especially the way the orchardists have set out their smudgo pots and gotten their oil, briquets and other fuel ready for emergencies. He stated that never before has there been such gen eral extensive preparations made by the orchardists for emergency smudging, as at the present time.
