Donald Wright and Robert Wrfght came home from Cor vallis Wednesday night. George Vir gil Gillette came home from Corvallis on Wednesday morning. Mrs, Charlie Homes of the Hellview district is making an extended visit with bar daughter, Miss Louise Homes, who is a professional nurse of Oakland. Cal. Misses Kdua Kennedy and Miss Robertson. Junior high teachers, were guests of Miss Ethel Held and her mother tor Thanksgiving day. The Keids ar occupying their new home on EuHt Main street. Mrs. Harriet Cheadles, who came to Ashland to spend the winter, has taken one of the Vista apartments on Vista street. ' Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Homos Jr. of Pellvlew entertained with a fine tur key dinner Tuesday evening at f:30. The rooms and table were lovely with touches of seasonable decorations and the fine meal was served with fault less care. Guests who enjoyed the hospitality of Vr .and Mrs Homes were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McGse. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Fuller and Irving E. Vlnlng. John Enders Is to be the head of Ashland post No. M. American Legion, for the coming year. Mr. Enders is the only nominee for the office. Elec tion will be held at the next monthly meeting. Clile Malone is the retiring commander. Mrs. Emm i Oeder and daughter. The churches of . the town united in a union service. Rev. J. C. Mergler read the proclama tion issued by President Coolidge. and Rev. J.'F. Rodman read the proclama tion of Governor Pierce. Rev. V. K. Allison of the Christian church preached the Thanksgiving sermon. The music by the choir and the spe cial number, a duet by V. D. Miller and C. N. Gilmore. were appropriate to the occasion and very much appre ciated by the audience. The offerings tajien at the Thanksgiving services are always used by the ministerial re lief for charitable purposes and to meet calls for help during the winter season. Twin babies, a boy and girl, were born on November 21 to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith .ot Poit!and. The babies have been named Donald and Marie. Mrs. Smith "was an Ashland .;irl. grand-daughter of Mrs. Mary Dunn of this city. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Hafaes and H. P. Haines of Marshfield have returned to their hoino after a visit t the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Haines of this city. Mike Tucker is building a fine new buimalow on the Boulevard. Sweeney of this city, who was called to Cali fornia suddenly owing to the serious illness of his daughter, was Introduced Wednesday just before noon. Dr. Sweenev. In response to a hvnothetical 'question by the defense, deposed that "deaths where the causes are unknown-' are frequent, and cited inci dents he encountered while coroner at Creat Falls. Mont., for eight years, where he conducted over 1 00 autop sies. Medical testimony for the state held that Mrs. Murphy died from an em I holism, caused by bruises on her body, j and reached their conclusions by at process of elimination. Testimony of the doctors making the autopsy showed all the vital organs to be in a healthy condition. The case is expected to .'jo to tho jury late Tuesday afternoon. . When Hay ing this, the chief had a particular case in mind. i It was that of the theft of Miss Maurine Carrol's car, which was found yesterday on South Crape street, after an iiIimmicu of several days. PETTY THIEVES Two burglaries, netting a set of carpenter's tools, were committed lust night by prowlers, who have not been captured. The Roosevelt school und the guruge of W. li. Dyer were the two places concerned. From Dyer wert stolen two hand saws, one finish-saw, metal ievl, jack plane, joint plane, 11 wood chisels and 12 drills. This property was in a heavy tool chest in the garage, which was broken open through force. Dyer had been absent from his home for two days nnd only discovered the loss when he returned early this morning.
