LONDON", Nov. 14. (A. P.) "The admiralty deeply regrets that they no longer hold out any hope thut the crew of the M-l still survive." This brief official announcement this morning wan taken as sealing the fate of the GS officers and men en tombed in the monitor-submarine which disappeared off the Devonshire coast during Thursday's maneuvers. Although mine sweepers and other vessels have been searching the waters of the English channel almost continuously since the submarine sub merged early Thursday morning dur ing maneuvers, they have encountered no signs which would knd to hope. There Is nothing to confirm that the hull located in the channel yesterday la the M-l rather than that of any one of tho numerous wrecks that nre sup posed to be lying on the floor of the chnnnel, some of them sent to the bottom during the World war by Ger man submarines. Reports from officers of the man euvering fleet who saw the M.l take the fatal plunge are too indefinite and speculative to furnish nn explanation of the cause. The admiralty also sent to the rela tives of the crew the following mes sage: "Tho circumstances in which tho submarine disappeared leaven room for no doubt that your son (or hus f band) has loHt his life with iho rest the crew." Throughout the night tho fleet of searching ships kept vigil on the spot, where the M-l is believed to lie on the rocky, treacherous bottom, nt a depth of 240 feet. Karly this morning four mine sweepers resumed their dragging In nn effort to make contact with the sub marine. The parent ship Maidstone also joined tho searchers with her secret magnetic reflecting npparatus. enabling the distance nnd direction of a magnetic object to be traced. try to bring her up from such n-great depth. It Is understood that next week Admiral Hlr Henry Oliver, com mander of the home fleet, will steam out with all his ships In line to offer a last salute to the victims.
