The Aberdeen suwmlll strike assumed more serious proportions toduywheii five hundred men- employed at tho Wilson Brothers and the Aberdotm' Lumber and Shingle company mills walked out. About 1200 men at four mills are now idle and all of tho four plants uro closed. Tho strikers ask a raise of fifty cents a day. Ships Which Cost Millions Are Burned PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 1. Hulks of four, wooden ships built here dur ing tho war were being burned todny in Columbia slough by M, Uurdo and Son who purchased them more than a year ago from tho United States shipping board. Kour others woro burned last woek. These eight ships cost the government approximately $7SO,000 each, or a total of $0,240, 000. They wero bought by the Bardo interests along with others in various Pacific coast ports. Tho purchasers stripped the brass and iron and all fixtures and. hardwood of any vnluo from the vessels and being unable to dispose of tho hulks they aro being burned.
