BRINGING Music in Jackson It Is evident that school bonrtls of the county are more awake' to the neeil of niuulc ih our schools- than they have ever been before. Aledfortl and Ashland have a music supervisor, and last year Butte Knlls secured a teacher' for music. For several years Phoenix and Gold Hill have hnd effi cient music work through carrying It on somewhat departntentally. Jlut this year the following- schpols in ad f dltfon are making effort to have defi nite instruction in rote music in nt least a 'part tof their grades: Central Point, Talent, Jacksonville and Eagle Point. In several rural schools excellent heplnnini? was'made last year, notably In Willow Kprlntis, Heese Creek. Wi mer and Oak Grove schools. More teachers are this' year ready to at tempt regular work in music, because they prepared for it during summer school. In the line of music appreciation almost every school named above has carried 'on excellent work chiefly through definite presentation with the Victrola. A number of schools have purchased VIctrolns and so are ajmin ready o follow on in this line. The county superintendent's office Is again ready to send out lists of rec ords which this year lead Into some new possibilities In music study. Miss L.eona Marsters of Eugene schools is editing a -department of music In The Oregon Teachers - Monthly published in Salem and the outlines 'presented are attracting attention of our tench era. Mlsa Marsters will present wnrk In music during tho Medford Insti tute. - The following excellent program for. music In the home as worked out by the general federation chairman of music, Mrs. Mark Oberndorfer, Is of fered by the division of the homo making department of the American home. It Is given to the press with the hope that the homes of Jackson county may more than support the ef forts of the schools in all lines of mu slr. ' Ten Hulcfi for Music in tlie Homo 1. 1 Make the musical instruments In your home a part of the home cir cle for' the enjoyment and edunctlon of j your family. Own a player piano or a phono- J ghiph, . These self playing Instru ments, If rightly used, will do more to stimulate an Interest In good music and to- cultivate musical taste, than any other medlum. 4. Begin the definite study of mu sic when your "child has learned to love good musical selections. Choose tHo best teacher, not the cheapest. 5, See that the practice hours are made -Interesting rather than tedious. Change your question from "How frlahy minutes did you practice to day?" to "Have you learned your mu sic lesson M ' 6. Iet your children realize that the study og music Is of equal Import ance with the other studies of school. Itrlng into the home circle the must-. cal selections which can be correlated . tory. . 7. Arrange the practice period so that father may not be disturbed. En courage the children to play for father at least once a week. 8. Arrange a music hour In your home a number of times a week; when all can sing together the good old songs and can hear the best known nnd lovel Instrumental selec-1 tlons. Have a Sunday hour when you can sing good hymns. A home memory contest can be planned for each month. ."Vl'S r OU take no chance when you buy a uted Ford car from an Authorized Ford Dealer, You get the tame square deal as on a new Tord car, and it carries a thirty day guarantee C.
