The. spectators were afforded much merriment to witness certain One. of tho most successful county fairs, in tho way of exhibits, closed yesterday under the clearest skies, Bince It opened last Wednesday. An estimated crowd of nearly 3500 'was present to enjoy the immensely en tertaining program that had been pre pared, which, It is agreed by most, was tho best of all presented. '1'he auto races, bucking contests, Me CleavG'a trained horses and motorcy cle stunts wero exceptionally well re ceived by tho crowd present. 1'rlzcH havo been awarded the best of the multitudinous exhibits of fruits, vegetables, livestock, flowers, fancy work and art, tho winners of which will be announced later. n every de partment exhibits were more numer ous than ever before, with the excep tion of tho livestock department, es pecially tho sheep, as none were ship ped In from outsido the county for exhlbitlon as in former years. An ex centionnal increase was noted in the urt and floral departments, some dahlias and paintings on exhibition were the best ever seen in any Jack son county fair. A silver loving cup, donated by noddy's Jewelry store, was awarded to w. J, Virgin for having tho most pleasing decoratlvo effects in his ra dio booth in the merchants' building. The competition was very close bo twoen Virgin's Radio booth nnd that of tho Valley Fuel company, tho lat ter recvelvlng second place, or honor able mention. Tho Medford Furniture and Hardware company witli Its tutor, estlng booth was next, roceivlng nn othor honorable mention. Tho cup, an Innovation this year, is not the property of tho present winner until he has won it two times in succession. The winning booth was a fireplace scene with' two cabinet radio receiv ers setting on either side. A mellow light from a stand illuminated the In viting sceno with its carpeted floor and other decorative effects. ' No prize was awarded in tho horti cultural building, ax tho different dis tricts prepared their respective exhib its With no though of competiton In mind. If .any prize had been awarded, it Is tho general opinion, tho Talent Irrigation District would havo been the recipient because of tho variegated nature of 'Its numerous specimens of farm produco. Tho pear show In the samo building won tho hearty admir ation of tho 'thousands w-ho !had the good Jortuno of viewing It. It fully lived up to, or bettered, tho standard Bot by previous shows. Tho poultry exhibit, contained In a separate building, Included some of tho finest fowl in southern Oregon, If riot tn tho entire state. Ktalls, above which tho hung blue grand champion rib bons, oxhlblted animals synonymous of good breeding and careful raising. In all cases they did not full to sat isfy tho spoctutors' expectation of a blue ribbon animal. For the flint lime, slnco tho fair had opened, tho outdoor program yes terday was ehoroughly enjoyed by the thousands, some of whom had Jour neyed far to attend. Applause from tho grandstand was more emphasized than on other days, when enthusinsni wan somewhat dampened by driiuding ruins. When competition among the racers was keen. It was then that the best .posslblo sutlsfnctloii wua obtain ed. . WcClcuvo's trained horses, who per formed gratis, wero omj of tho fea tures of Iho afternoon, with tholr fnn oy high Jumping. Hovernl of tho 311 bucking homes from tho Hlms ranch at Hly. when wrldden by thrill loving Indians, furnished onterliilnment that has never before been on a Jackson county fair program. Tho auto races as usual did nol fall to please and wero better when compared to races df tho, opening days. Together with tho 'motorcycles they offered very in teresting entertainment. . Tho first event of the afternoon, a J. lap motorcycle sidecar race, was won by Nick Htangornme In tho sur prising 'tjmo of 3:fi0 minutes, with Ernest I,. When the horse s .were on tho north east turn of the track, I'eto Carr, In dian bay., was thrown from his horse, fulling heavily ou the ground, lie lay still whero he hud fallen, leading the crowd to believe ho hud been injured, however examination brought forth that tho boy hnd only been knocked breathless by tho fill, llo rodo no mora that afternoon. During tho Interval between tho two nhove evonts two men. uunounced as tho Johnson brothers, attempted to rldo a bucking horse sitting face to face on Its back. They remained but a few seconds in that position before being proolpltuted to the ground. Klunls wore then performed by motn. cycle riders from Medford nnd Eu gene, riding motorcycles In preca rious positions. A feat which brought applause fro mtho grandstand was ac. complishrd by Clyde Pearl, a local boy. who rode entirely around tho large track standing on his muchlne's seat. A close finish was the entertaining feature of a 6-lup auto race, when Mervyn Oleasou nearly nosed "Moose" Mulrhcad out of fine place, whose time wan 4:64.
