' who Is visiting his mother In Ash land made a trip to Diamond Lake this week, stopping en route to visit Mrs. gatchwel) who Is an old family friend. Bob Spencer of Ash land was his companion and they were expecting to get a deer on thfir trip. The Onddls family spent Sunday In the woods here und at Crater Lake. The Heckelheimer family will live here all winter this coming winter. They are contemplating extensive Im provements to their properties here In view of accommodating the pub lic next season. If we got all the improvements hero that we are working for and that are really needed, this beautiful resort .will be coming Into Its own. It is really the most delightfully sit uated of any station on the Crater Luke Highway. An hour's drive from the lake, wonderful fishing, both creek and river, 1Q miles to tho hut-kelberry mountain, 4 miles' to Woodruff meadows, 3 miles to tho beaver farm and many other points are here, such as a short walk to the natural bridge on Uoguc river and the climate is delightful, neither hot nor cold, beautiful shade and splendid water; truly an ideal place to spend the summer. Tho fruit Is unusually fine and It Is the heaviest crop that has ever been pick ed from this hundred acre orchard. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hacket and daughter, Miss Huth and Mrs. H. II. Alcerson of Grants Pass, were visitors last week at the Crossing Ranch. P. A. Bonney and W. K. Parker purchased a number of pigs this week. They have decided With melons at half a cent a pound and bacon at 4Ge, there will be more money iu convert ing melons into pork. The Willow Springs school opened last week. Tuesday, with Misses Moore and Greenleaf as teachers. There are about thirty pupils enrolled but there will be more coming in later. Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Clarke and daughter, MIbs Doris, and son, Hobby of Salem, were calling on old friends In this vicinity last week. The family had been on an auto trip down the coast and were homeward bound. They were dinner guests onVrhursday ot the V. K. Parker home. The Clarkes formerly resided here and Mr. Clarke was resident engineer during the paving of the highway The Misses Vivian and 0ereild.no Jones of Central Point were guests iur the dny last Friday of Wylamao Parker. The Eld en, DuBuque and Carney families spent last Thursday at Dead Indian Soda Springs. They s report good roads and a delightful time. L. A. Salude, Jr., spent the week end visiting friends in Ashland, but returned early this week to prepare his poultry and pet stock for exhibi tion at the county fair. Kusscll Harris, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harris, motored down from Portland with a friend and spent the week end with his parents. Kus sell will attend school at Corvallts this year. Junior Boardman has been quite 111 and under the doctor's care. He was suffering with tonsilitls but Is again able to be out. Kugene Heames who has been se riously sick for the past six weeks with typhoid pneumonia, shows but stilt little improvement. The fever is gone but it leaves him very weak. Miss Kvelyn Heft, who registered as a freshman at the opening of the Central Point high school, has been ill and unable to attend since. Last Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Bonney entertained a number of friends at very enjoyable watermelon party. Iast Thursday Miss Leah Parker left for Chicago, III., where she will take a year's work at the Columbia Normal School of Physical Education. Miss Parker majored In that subject at O. A. Wise is moving into the Watson house for tho winter. A Young People's meeting will be held at Ashland next Friday night In tho bungalow at tho Llthlu park. A farewell party was given Thurs day night In honor of Hilda Hanson who left Friday for Persist where she will teach this winter. There wore thirty-eight present. Taffy was pulled, penoche, divinity, nnd fudge were made; nnd sandwiches, enke, coffee, and melons were sorved. Kn- tertainment wns furnished by games, stunts, music, nnd dancing.
