Nye last week sold to .1. C. Ottlnxer, former owner' of Jackson Hot HiirlnKH, his small poultry and garden ranch In thd south end of town. Ills is one of the very best' little places in the valley and although It oontulns only three acres or less, It hroiiKht 19000 and Is worth every dollar paid by the new owner. Mr. Nye will build new poultry houses on his other place In the northern part of town, and will move Into what was formerly the Schiiller house, now owned by Mr. Nye. There are two of the men Interested In the building of the new sawmill who have come to Talent to make their home. One of them last Tues day closed a deal for the Wlthrow property and moved from the Nye house Into his own borne. The other partner will still occupy part of the blK house owned by Mr. Nye, and part ol' which the Nye family will also occupy until other arrangements can be made. Dr. Newdey of Urownsboro was canvassing the smaller towns Monday and Tuesday of this week In the In terosts of the Jackson County News. Alfred High of Snnta Rosa Is In the vallpy and has opened up a shoe store in Medford In the new Hutchison & Lumsden building. The Highs are one of the oldest pioneer families in the valley. The relatives held a picnic in Aslilnnd at T.itbia park a week ago last Thursday, and most of the mem bers of the old pioneer family were present. ' . ; i J. M. School opened Tuesday morning at Phoenix and the pupils were hustling awny to Medford to buy the many new books which will be required this year Many of our farmers are cutting the third cron of alfalfa, and It is much above the average of former seasons. - C. Carey sold a fine .Tersev cow to Mr. Duffy, with her third calf by her side. The cow is a beauty and a good milker. K C. Locltwood of the White Wing poultry farm hns Just completed two big poultry houses and Is shutting In for the winter laving period about 1000 fine pullets. These are from his record trap-nested stock and will no doubt make a fine record for eggs during the winter months. The Stnncllfle packing house put In full time the past week and expect to be kept busy for some time to come as the Inter pears are coming In now and promise to make a big run. With Hie several poultry keepers living between Phoenix and the county farm, there are something over 2000 laving hens that will be kept confined In houses this winter, all of which are young and Hogunlzed or trnn-nested flocks. Tho Talent Irrigation district will put in the biggest single booth exhibit nt the county fair this year. One whole section will be used for this display of agricultural products. Mr. Arnsnlger hns been covering the en tire district soliciting' the products thnt have been raised under the Talent Irrigation project. Last Sunday at the Phoenix Presby terian church there was taken Into fellowship a class of seven members. Some of them were given baptism nt the morning services nnd one was a former member. During the electrical storm of Friday night, the lightning struck the large oak tree at the corner of the cluri houHe and broke tho electric wires that were on the tree and blew all the fuses In the club house. One of tho carpenters had a narrow escape from bein killed, he had just turned on one of the switches nnd only had his hand off from It a second when' the lightning struck. He was stunned quite badly from the Hhock. The electric company from Medford were notified right awny to come and make repairs, which they did in a short while. Mrs. Rose Gay who hns been ill for the past month in the Ashland hospital, returned to her home on Riverside much improved in health. Mrs. Maude Chumplin went to Grants Pass Tuesday morning to have dental work done. Frederick Uwensson who has been In Los Angeles mopped en route in 'ortland to visit his aunt, Mrs. F. C. Elliott and family. John Davis who is staying nt the home of hfs sister, Mrs. Chas. Wuhl. spent a few days in Medford last week. Miss Nellie Jncobs nnd Miss Mary McMillan were In Rogue River Satur day. Mr. and Mrs, F. E. "Wahl nnd Mr. and Mrs. R. R, Khreve nnd daughter called Sunday at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Chhs. Wnhl and Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Matthews. Mrs. F. 15. Elliott and son Donald were shopping in Grants Pass Satur day. Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Alden, Mrs. J. H. Butler and Jane McQunt were down from Medford Thursday to help decorate the club house. Elliott Butler who works for the orest Reserve spent Saturday night at the home of his mother, Mrs. Maude Champlin. A daughter was born Monday mor ning to Mr. and Mrs. Clay Byles of tho El Ora ranch. Foots Creek school began Monday morning with an enrollment of 17 pupils. Mrs. Abby Champlin, Mrs. Beatrice Jones and Mrs. Georgia Kettle at tended the show, "The Ten Com mandments," in Grants Pass Tuesday. The regular business -meeting of the club will not be held Sunday, Sept. 13th as planned. Mr. and Mis, Richard HunHley of the El Oro ranch are the proud par ents of a baby girl born Thursday morning. Wilcox was struck by an auto mobile while riding his bicycle down the main street of that city.
