crop report for Origin fin the week
cnHK Anpust 2.$. prepare.l liy iho
Vniteil -KiniHs (leiarlmeiii of uKrlt-ul-ture,
follows:
?nol weather prevailed most of (he
week in northwest e.rn enmities, ex
teiitilnR to other portions of Uih slate
town rrl the oIohp nf the week, enlmin
rttlne In heavy frost In some central
and easier iv localities, ltalu fell over
ihe great part of the state Hiilurdny i
t';nrt Sunday. The preeipitatioo ex- I
ceedd one inch on the southern coast,
and over considerable areas elsewhere j
was sufficient to he nf mniorinl bene-
fit to vegitation and in check the
nprerut or roresi fires.
V reals: Little small grain remains
to he harvested exeepi In the more
elevated districts and threshing well
advanced. The rain cause some delay
In threshing, but is though to have
done Jtttle damage.
Corn was somewhat improved by
rain, but In eastern counties suffered
some local injury from frost. Plowing
for winter wheat has bene facilitated
by the rain, but in most sections more
rain is needed.
Fruits: Late fruits will be helped
by the rain. Picking of Bur tie it pears
is complete in-some sections, and pick
ing of Howell pears is under way.
Picking, nnd canning of Kvergreen
blackberries are progressing. Oregon
peaches are in market in fair quanti
ties. -
Meadows; pastures nnd ranges: Cut
ting o fthe third- crop of alfalfa is
practically complete In some southern
counties, and cutting nf the second
crop Is advancing in central counties.
Haying is somewhat delayed by rain.
Hulling of clover seed Is in progress.
Pastures have been somewhat- revived
by rain. Keed on the higher ranges is
holding out well, but in many places
domestic pact u res. where noi Irrigat
ed, are insufficient for the needs of
stock.
Livestock: Most range stock is in
good condition, ami the mrakets are
all well supplied with beef anil mut
ton, hut some domestic slock is fail
ing. Mifieellaneous: Picking of early
hops has been somewhat Interfered
with by rain. U'lte hops are doing
well. Some late potatoes will be help
ed by the rain, but some are loo far
advanced. Tomatoes and melons are
fairly -plentiful. Onion pulling is in
progress.
