Potato 1ilues jiever found their true level In the Pacific northwest during the marketing of the 1924 crop, tile Port land Telegram says today. Figures. furnished by the United States bureau of crop estimates in July, 1924, Indi cated 6.900,000 bushels decrease, fol kiwmi a 10.000,000 decrease the prev ious year. But tke situation was com'- pietaly overshadowed by the tremend ous crop harvested in tne iiocky -mountains, with the result that the' bulk of the Washington crop was sold for less than. $25 per ton, f. , o, . ti, Yakima, and a large part of Oregon's crop never entered its accustomed .' channels or trade. Oregon s crop was slow maturing. There was practically ,, no demand for storage so that no price was established for,Burbanks up tp the close of the year. . The late summer crop In Malheur county, Oregon, did not have the sup-; port of previous years. The crop w$ , expected to move In August and Sep tember and was Beeklng a market In' the early winter. Demand for western. Oregon Burbanks opened with zeBt In January at J1.60 to the growers and boomed to (2 by February 1. ' A ;sluin6 set In almost over night from which It never recovered. Only a nominal market existed from then until April 15, when it was tlAt). A sudden reali zation of the depletion of stocks then.' gave a sharp recovery; but in the meantime the stocks had been lost by -cold weather, fed to stock and peddled out in small lots so the sharp advance to $2.25 found practically no supplies available. ..'., ; '' - OLYMPIA, Wash., July 17.
