Amos stopped over the sabbath at the Carles' and gave a splendid sermon at the school home on the sabbath morning. Mrs. Maude Champlln is spending ten days on the coast with a party of Medford friends. . . Joe Woodcock and wife visited with in Lances at Kingsbury springs on Sunday. Ed Woodcock Is coming out from Rogue River, putting up hay on his fine ranch at the head of Foots Creek. Some of the boys and girls of Foots Creek Sabbath school are memorizing the intermediate catechism. Little Genevieve Stumbo has memorized several of- the PSalms. Born. Andy Poole moved Ed Cushman ond bride to Huckleberry mountain. Mr. Cushman Is forest ranger ut that place this year. Fire In four different places, caused by lightning this week, has kept the rangers in this vicinity very busy. Ray Sntchwell spent tho week end with his family enjoying the cool weather of Union creek after the hot week at home. MaY and Mrs. Carkln of Medford spent Sunday on the river. Mr. and Mrs. F. T. McDermott and father, A. McDermott aro staying at the Bradley home. , The new "Beckelhelmor Bakery and delicatessen is open and doing a good business. They fed over 100 people Sunday. The others have not returned, but nro supposed to he drifting down the Chitina river on a raft. H. F. Lambert of Ottawa. -jino of those returning, lain a hospital with frozen feet. T.wo others are Norman H. Reld of Boston and Andrew Taylor packer of McCarthy. They drifted down the Chitina river on a raft, the party dividing and building two rafts for tho descent after the river was renched. Reaching the summit at 8 p. m. on June 23, tho party remained there for 5 minutes. During tho descent they .were overtaken by a blinding suww storm. Unable to reach their camp tower down tho mountainside they dug holes In tho snow and stayed there until noon the next day. It was during this night that the men suffered frost bitten hands and feet.
