o o. Oa MffiSNriUN OOPENTIAOEN', Denmark, June 10 -(A. P.) The best rlmme of finrt- PB Captain lioald Amundsen and lis companion polar fliers, Is at Cape jolumhla, Wesl Oreenland, where the (mcrlcan " expedition under Donald jlacMillan is going, In the opinion if J. Daugaard Jensen, governor of Jreenland. I "I believe Amundsen is en route here, as he has not returned to tpitzbergen," said M. Jensen today. Some mishap has occurred, doubt ess to tho airplanes, or In trying to each the pole he used so much tetrol that he was unable to return ,( o his starting place and therefore lew as far as posslblo toward Cape -'olumbla, which is nearer the polo ly a third than Spltzbcrgen. "Depots were lad out by Oott rlcd Hansen at Capo Columbia, Richard Sound and Fort Conger, fhey will probably be Amundsen's alvatlon. This ia one more proof if his foresight. "The depots were laid out with l view to tho Maud expedition when le Intended -soing into the ice by he Nome Siberian islands and real zed that he might be forced to ro urn afoot. When the flying expe (ition started, these depots were aken into consideration." Governor Jensen believes, however, hat Spitzbergen is the only spot rom which an active effort to res ue Amundsen Is possible. At other "laces, as along the east coast of Jreenland or at Cape Columbia, the elief expeditions must wait until le turns up. Colonel Koch, chief of the Danish ,lr force, does not believe the prob ability of finding the Amundsen -.arty by airplane search Is very rreat. Ho agrees with other authori ies that Buch a search ia like "look trgr for a needle in a haystack." I L EAST ST. LOUIS, 111.,- June 10. !A. P.) O. C. MAT?, TTTPTTXF,, 6 wrr u.s. dim T BE SENT T( WASHINGTON, June 10. (A. V.) Secretary Wilbur has no intention of sending eithVr of the dirigibles, Los Angeles and Shenandoah in search of the missing Amundsen po lar expedition. In announcing refusal of a re quest by the Norwegian Aero club that one of the airships be sent to the rescue, the secretary leclared "we are not going to send any wild goose chase to the polar regions." The navy department has not changed its opinion that such an expedition is not feasible and 'Mr, Wilbur pointed out yesterday, that if sent, it could not be ready to operate before the three airplanes with tho MacMillan arctic expedition could make a search for Amundsen. Difficulties attending a dirigible flight to the pole, he believes, would be greater than those of heavier than-air machines, with the airship more highly susceptible to weather conditions.
