STATE BOARD OP
1A1
PORTLAND. Ore., June 5, The
state board of higher curricula was in
IttPRMlnn hpro tnilnv inisMwrtni? nnn.il
tof the University of Oregon asking
j'that the Oregon Agricultural college
!be prohibited from presenting certain
courses held to be assigned to the!
university.
. The board went into session at '
10:30 reviewing the briefs filed by j
both colleges and also the steno-,
graphic notes of verbal remarks by
representatives of both institutions.
No faculty members of either insti
tution attended the session, which
was strictly a conference between the
board members on their findings
from study of the briefs and the min
utes of the earlier meeting.
Dr. C. J. Smith, chairman, said at
the opening of the meeting that a
final decision may not be given, as
further lines for examination may be
brought up by members of the board
at tho conference.
t The charges of duplication of
courses were filed against the Agri
cultural college by the university, the
lines Involved being commerce, jour
nalism, music, education and liberal
ai'ts. In its brief in reply, the college
charged tho university with duplica
tion of co u rsps in commerce which
had previously been adjudicated to
the agricultural institution.
THEY STILL ADHERE
TO HELL REALITY
MINNEAPOLIS. Minn., June 6. (By
the Associated Press.) Renewal of ;
discussions regarding substitution of I
words in the second article of the
apostles' creed appeared likely as the
synodical council of iho '.uilivruu
Augustana synod m t here today to
prepare the business to come before
its convetlMon next v.ecO.:.
The synod last .year voted to substi
tute "hades" f-r "bell ' in ( tic apostles'
creed, as well as to change "holy
ghost" to "holy spirit." Both changes
were made to conform to the Amer
ican standard version of the! Bible,
which has been adopted as more ac
curate than the King James transla
tion. The council announced that the
substitution did not Imply a repudia
tion of the doctrine of the existence
of hell, but reluted only to the state
of Christ following his crucifixion and
death.
The meeting also disclosed efforts
would be made to have the synod re
scind its action requiring pastors to
wear robea while officiating lu ohurcll.
